Hi Piglet, The DAT molds the way the car shifts around your driving habits. If you like to drive easy it will learn to shift earlier. If you like to zoom from stop light to stop light as fast as you can it will wait to shift just before red line to allow you the most gain.
it doesn't take long for the DAT to relearn driving habits so you can be a speed deamon one week and a granny the next.. =)

I beleive that the driver adaptive controls change to how the driver is driving. Ex: hard on the gas the timing of the gears will change to better suit your style of driving, for better gas miliage and efficiency. when i purchased my Lancer OZ rally almost a year ago the dealer told me to stay under 55mph for 500 miles, other then that they said have fun and push the car after that, because it is made to be pushed.
Cograts, Piglet.
I have a 5 speed and I don't notice the car learning my driving habits at all. So I guess it only works on an automatic. I don't know, someone let me know.
And yea. take it easy for the first 500 miles. But I'm all talk. I pushed to 80+ miles on the highway after I took my car home from the dealer. Wow it felt good. I just have the need for speed. After that, I took it easy. You know, try not to redline most of the time.
Have fun.

Good day/nite, mate.)
Just to let you know the speed limit on most highways in the US average about 60 mph/100kph, so I pushed it to 140kph.
Kilometers sounds much better.
I don't think there's nothing wrong with hard driving so as long as you take care of you car. Like changing the oil at the recommended schedule time. Rotating you tires, and keeping your car shiny, etc, etc.
Cars nowaday will last much longer. The most important thing is, just make sure you get your oil and (oil) filter changed every 3000 miles or three months, which ever happens first. ( I live in a severe usage zone, Dallas, Texas)
And for the auto makers, they only see if the egine runs and works right, but will not rev the engine (I think).

Because only an automatic shifts for you. If a manual adapted, the car would be connected to Skynet or maybe The Collective.

If anybody had "loosened my suspension" before I got my car, I'd have killed someone.
Factory engine running is common among European cars, but it's not common to all manufacturers. Mitsubishi doesn't do that, so that's why they instruct you to take it easy for a few hundred miles.
From my recollection, BMWs run in your engine break-in for you and actually perform your first oil changed before the engine is put in the car.
