all of these are good suggestions. it doesn't sound like you want to go crazy so don't worry about turbos and just look in to some basic mods. sri, pulley, catback exhaust (rrm sells the magnaflow and greddy which are both good) is a good combo to start. when you start to get bored with that look into a header and rrm's pickyback. rrm's piggyback is prob what you want considering you'll have to custom tune other systems like greddy emanage, but rrm's comes ready to go. it all depends on how much time, learning, and money you want to devote to it. if you want more serious power gains (relative to lacking, stock 4g94 engine) go all the way with the header and piggyback. i've heard the piggyback has given some people a noticeable gain in mileage as well.
also throw some aftermarket bulbs in your headlights. sylvania silverstars or some kind of blues with do fine. might want to consider some exterior like painting grill or getting a new one (seems like the ralliart grill from ebay is a good way to go for 02-03 guys. search the forums for it). i forgot if you have an oz or not so if you have an es get some 15 or 16 inch alloy wheels. if you have an oz just keep those. they really aren't that bad. whatever you do with the exterior just keep it classy
aside from these things you'll have to learn more before deciding on mods that cater more to one's personal preference. you can't go wrong with these basics though. just read up on this sight and you'll be all good. i'm still pretty much a noob but i've been reading these forums every day since september so it's given me a great idea of what i want to do.

Stay classy, San Diego

Yeah I did look at 1 grill... not sure yet what I want to do with that. I def. like the blacked out headlights, and I was even looking at smoked lenses... but I'm not too sure how classy that would look myself... I have to see some more pictures before I decide on smoking my lights.

Thanks man!

Awesome glad i helped a bit. check out member profiles and you'll see what others have done (the ones who decided to put up picks). all i've done exterior wise is a mesh grille with an rrm emblem stuck in there. that'll satisfy me for a while but i'm think of getting some projector headlights. for 02-03 though definitely black those things out or look into film or what not. good luck with the car

You can adjust the Air Fuel ratio with a HKS super AFR or one of RRMs piggybacks or with Greddy Emanage. I think that is what they are talking about. Although I totally disagree.

Have better airflow does have some clear gains for midrange hp. There is some loss in Torque at the lowend and for our cars the gain is very minimal. If you do get some way to tun the A/F you will see very good gains, from about 10-20hp depending on supporting mods, like exhaust, intake mani, etc... it all feeds off of one another.
