Ebay Air Intakes

Hey all,
Are the air intakes off of ebay for the lancers really worth buying? are they really going to increase the horse power up to 10 or so? thanks.

In my own opinion no, i had one, and i just threw it away after i had it on for 2 days, about all it does it make it sound a little beefier. plus the hose flexes, so it moves about in the engine compartment, because there is no real way to secure them.

alot of people have been complaining about fitment issues, one person actually sucked something into his engine because the intake fell off, there's a couple threads where people bought it just to put the new filter on the stock intake, do a search you should find one or two posts on it

imo they look like a pos but i guess you get what you pay for with some of the complaints i have heard i think you would probably be better spending the money for an intake from a reputable company like aem injen or rrm. I think it would be interesting to see someone dyno a lancer with that intake

They work great if you are smart enough to figure out the install. The bracket is a little confusing but works no-problem. I have had the intake for over a month now and have had no problems. It looks and sounds great and no intake gives a real noticeable difference in power. It cost me a little over $30 and I got a K&N style filter, mandrel bent piping, brackets, MAS adapter, and screws. All of the intake's on eBay are generally BOMZ racing. They retail for over $100 in local shops I've checked. I say go for it!

ummmmmmmm......I have an Injen CAI and i have noticeable power over stock. Like everyone else has said, you get what you pay for, if you are willing to comprimise your 15k car for a cheap performance part be my guest. I have heard many of the same horror stories about them falling off and the engine taking in foreign objects...If you are strapped for the cash PM Booyah he'll help you out fabricating a GODCAI, and i trust that much more than an Ebay intake.

I think the biggest downside of the eBay intakes is the fact that the filter is just left dangling inside the engine bay. The shoddy filter can be replaced. But if you're gonna go that route, why not just get an MAS adaptor plate for $15?

well, i figured out the install on the ebay intake, and i didnt have a problem at all. i did replace the crappy filter they send with it with a matching blue one, check out my profile, i have a picture of it in there and i have it secured very well with a bracket. i have never had a problem with it falling off though. just tighten that **** down and its all good. i can see how if you didnt secure it that it would just slowly vibrate off though. i mainly bought the intake cause i liked the matching blue cuffs and the chrome pipe, and i didnt feel like spending almost 200 bucks on a SRI.

ebay intakes are a good bang for the buck. theyre only like 30 bucks and u get as much power as the other SRI's, maybe like .5 hp less... u wont get 10 hp on an intake.

at the most u'll retrieve about 2-3 maybe up to 5 if ur lucky.

so if u barely get any power from an intake then why do all these companies gaurentie soo much more than what you really get. there has to be a decent one out there.

they dont guarentee, they lie. no intake is gonna give you ten horsies unless you run it with a turbo or you put it on some 5.0L monster.

do these intakes go onsale only at certain times. I searched tonight but couldn't find it under air intakes? I'd probably buy one if only for the MAS adapter.

Every little bit would help at this time.

they are always on there when i look. they are in the 35.00 price range, so i guess sort your results by price. i just type 'lancer' in the search box.
