evo 8 motor swap
We have HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS of duplicate threads thanks to that style of thinking. You'd expect a little effort on the part of the person who wants the answer seeing as how they're the person who needs the info. If you can't learn it yourself, why waste someone else's time having them teach you?
I don't know about you, but I'm not so willing to tell people to go spend large amounts of money just to confirm or deny fitment and find all the problems with engine swaps. If someone has the money, time and motivation I'd love to see the outcome, but truthfully engine swaps (with the exception of some H&A's and SR20DET's and the likes cuz their engines grow on trees) are far from cost efficient ways of tuning. Who would put a new engine in their car and then leave it as is? And when you did want to tune, you'd have to get custom work done for much of it. Not to mention the money one COULD spend on a swap could easily be put towards the stock engine for similar, if not better benefits.
So far the Evo 8's 4g63 is looking to be the closest potential 4g63 for swapping, but expect serious difficulties (especially if you're trying to do it yourself) and maybe even some pleasant suprises (as in a few things that just happen to fit both cars).

research is allways better than listening to what everyone else says.
And if you ever read my FAQ...
Disclaimer: This FAQ is not intended to be the end-all for all discussions; rather, I would like this to be a helpful foundation for people who have this project in mind. Please keep in mind that all this info was gather during my long research on this topic. They might not be 100% technically correct and I claim no responsibility if any damage was caused. Anyway, Enjoy.
When someone (like Clay) showed me what he is trying to do (a 4G Mirage w/ 4G63), I showed full support and have lengthy discussion with him. I assumed you didn't read that.
When I see questions like, "hEy dUdE, mY bOy tOlD mE tHaT jU cAn dO a 4G63 sWaP iNtO a lAnCeR". Do you think this person is "prepared" to put up the time, money and effort to achieve this goal? I doubt it....
On top of that, if you oz owners keep telling people not to do it then how are we ever going to find out how much it acctually cost, what gains ? problems? etc....
I'm glad that some people do find benefits in reading my stuff. My only purpose is to lessen some of these questions and provide some good BASIC groundwork. If anyone is interested in doing this conversion, I always urge them to do further research.
LOL i've attempted in doing a 4g63t Evo5 motor swap a few years back with my 5th generation Mirage Sedan [1998] the swap is very POSSIBLE! but alot of $$$ and time is needed to do such a swap! it took me close to a year to do the swap! ...actually, i didn't even finish it! yep...i spent countless hours and alot of money which nearly put me to bankrupt status...eventually i opted to send the car to a very popular rally company in chicago to finish the job for me...if you want information on how my swap went then ask away i posted on an earlier thread of someone asking a similar question and told them about my "journey" for the 4g63t swap. -=oP
im not discouraging any of you to not do this...if you have the funds to do so then be my guest...but i have to encourage you all who are planning to do such a swap to PLEASE RESEARCH! ALOT! and once you think you've researched enough research even more! i had a basic idea of what i need to do and i still had a hard time doing the conversion...
for those of you really looking to do a 4g63t swap drop it in for a FWD format you'll still have to do some custom work though since the tranny of the 4g63t is made for AWD but it will work...although i wont guarantee you that the Lancers suspension can handle such power [stamped metal/aluminum pieces] launching and just regular daily driving might be a very tough thing to do.
crazyracerboy21: an eclipse 4g63t is different from the Evo 4g63t the only 4g63t compatible with the Lancer/Mirage is the Evo 5 and up 4g63t's the eclipse 4g63t's run completely opposite and sit on the wrong side of the engine bay alignments, motor mounts, tranny problems/issues all that would have to be modified as well as the engine bays chassis to fit a USDM 4g63t...doing such a swap will be ridiculous...the only Mirage that can fit an eclipse 4g63t is the 3rd gen and 4th gen Mirages.
theres just so much information out there about this swap already...if you really wish to learn more read Lan Evo's FAQ and visit www.mirageforums.com they've done extensive research on this swap...but i must warn you to please be carefull when asking do searches on that forum and you'll find millions of posts about possible conversions and 4g63t swaps....and if you dont trust those sources then hit up TAD motorsports in Chicago for the east coast people and Road Race Motorsports for the west coast guys.

oy,,,,, ok my whole point is the whole discouragement thing.
people have a mind of their own....
and hobie i'm not saying to endorse anything. in fact i honestly think people shouldn't say anything until an acctual usdm lancer is rolling around with whatever swaped in it.

Again, price vs effectiveness. If someone encouraged you to do a swap that you anticipated costing 10k and you ended up paying 15k and not being satisfied...assuming you even finish...that would be pretty ****ty.
Simply put: The pros are seriously outweighed by the cons and I make that crystal clear when I answer. If your heart's set on it, do it. I wouldn't do it to my worst enemy's car though with his own money.

I appreciate your effort, Lan. Again, I'll say it's the best Evo Swap FAQ on the net. Give someone a basic idea.
If you're not making money as bountiful as docs or lawyers, it's not worth the effort to live barely or starve on paycheck to paycheck. Starving isn't kosher compared to gaining brownie pts from your peer.
If you don't have the dedication to the craft, don't bother. Besides, the lancers are still brand new. If a lancer hit +85K in mileage, okay, starting thinking of options like the 4g64 off the 3g eclipse or the Outlander.
Oh boy, I'm glad the lancer guys don't ask about the 3K GT VR4 motor in the 6g72 TT. Us, mirage guys, get that Q once or twice yearly.

I started a thread that brought up the idea of a 2.4 outlander engine swap a long time ago and it started up a **** storm of posts on the swap subject but I dont think it was ever established wether it would be a relitively easy swap
Am I the only one who says buy a dam TD04 a intercooler and be happy with 250 horse?
Being the previous owner of a dsm and a honda i believe the whole point of making a car your own is to mod it, not rip everything out and try to make an eclipse in a lancer body, if you want that buy a dam eclipse and get the evo body kit.

The outlander uses the lancer's OZ chassis, right. If so, it should fit, unlike for the mirage. Mitsu somehow messed with the engine bay. The size is very different from lancer to mirage.
Someone just needs to drop by the dealership and look at the motor mounts placement. Also, find the strarter. should be below and between the intake mani but on the block.
