Wadadlig, I dont know if you know Rem-Rock, an Evo-powered blue sedan in Orlando but he is one of them.

My question is does an EVO VIII 4G63T block bolt up to any FWD trans? This is going in a mid-mounted rear-drive setup so motor mounts etc. make no difference. I need a FWD trans to bolt up to EVO VIII block.

I was planning on going with an EVO RS trans since it has LSD but after looking at the EVO trans the transfer case may be an issue. Has anyone seen an EVO trans with the transfer case removed? Is it possible to connect a half-shaft directly to the trans and then fab a side plate to contain the fluid?

Rob, try asking that in the Evo forums. Most Lancer people don't really have much hands on experience with the Evo transmission or transfer case in the way that you're asking. Anyway, I think you might get the response you're looking for there.

All you need to make a 4G63T FWD is a 3G Eclipse 4G64 bellhousing and your current transmission. Manual and auto bellhousings are different, so get the appropriate one.

So an EVO VIII 4G63 will bolt to a 3rd gen Eclipse bellhousing bolted to a Lancer (or other FWD) trans?

I think this may be the answer I was looking for.

Or you could get REALLY lucky and have a Mirage guy answer. Gotta love em.

Have you checked into 1g GST motor/tranny options? I don't know if it would suit you quite as well, but it's certainly worth considering if you haven't.

We've had more time to think things over than you guys.

Oh, I forgot to mention that there is a slight issue with the starter motor and the turbo since the 4G64 puts the starter on the front of the block. It puts the starter in front of the turbo inlet, which obstructs the suction pipe path. Guys in PR have moved the starter to the rear, and a dude in OZ made a custom manifold to shift the turbo.

Rob, if you aren't in a rush, I will have a similar swap (hardware wise) underway and will at least have the motor, bellhousing, manifold and turbo in dry-dock within the next month or two. I can let you know what to expect, or you could come check it out.

By the time you finish with the motor swap and the expensive **** tranny, you could of put some money down for the evo and took the rest and got a huge turbo charger to finish. Not good use of your cash IMO. I wish I had money that grows on trees like that.

Thanks for all the info guys, I appreciate it.

Gunshin-I am not in a rush, still considering my options. I would love to see the parts in person when you get them. I hve tried eyeballing them in different cars but it just isn't accurate enough.

AFAIK the 1G, 2G Exclipse drivetrain is turned 180* in the engine bay? Also I have seen many more upgrades for the EVO 4G63.

There are ****tons of mods for both, but the Evo powerplant is a more refined version, and the tunes are more aggressive. I think the real benefit to looking into DSM 4g63T's would be significantly lower initial cost. The Evo motors tend to significantly more.
