I just had the Greddy put in this past Saturday. I had the same Magnaflow exhaust you have. The greddy sounds sweet. Just like the Magnaflow but I bit louder and deeper. Especially with stick. I can notice a little more horsepower gain as well. Maybe 3-5. Trust me, get the Greddy Evo Cat-Back. How is the throttle body mod? Worth it? I am going to check into the Chip now. Did you have to send them your ECU? I don't know about that right now. I need my car for work and crap.

The problem with the JET Chip is that you get it tuned to work best with whatever mods you had at the time. Change your mods and change how the chip effects your car. If all you're trying to do is play with your AFR then get a piggy back like an S AFC or e-manage and at least give yourself the adjustability for if and when you change what performance mods are on your car.

...And my name is Andrew.

andrew ive been under the assumption that the jet chip is a learning ecu that will adjust afr and timing according to what it reads from the o2 sensors. for example, if , after you got the upgrade, you add a cat back and headers it will realize there is more air so it will adjust more fuel and advance timing slightly. im not sure thats why i said "under the assumption" and to answer rawdog's questions, i like the throttle body but it seemed to only give me a couple hp. i think it was easy to install but i shouldve put that monet toward a cat back. you will have to send them your ecu but if you ship it next day and they get it before 12:00pm their time they will upgrade and next day to you. next day is included in their pricing. so if you ship it in the morning you should have it back in two days so if you could borrow a friend or family member's car.......

RE:

Yea I could probably borrow a family car. So it's $299.99? That's not too bad. I think I'll go with it. You noticed a lot of HP gains? That's what I want. One more question though. I live in NJ and emissions here suck. I am getting a test pipe put on today. When I got to emissions I have to put the Cat back on or I'll fail. Will that screw the Chip up at all?

Be careful of the butt dyno, it is misleading.

Sometimes people feel alot of gains because, without any sort of equipment to measure anything (even a stopwatch will work!) your butt will only notice DIFFERENCE, not actuall speed. For instance, if your power curve is VERY linear, it will not FEEL like it has alot of pickup because the human body can only notice CHANGE.

Remember the Mr. Wizard experiment with 3 cups of water, 1 hot, 1 cold and 1 medium? perfect example.

Another perfect example: DaTenshi has AEM intake, RMR headers, Magnaflow exhaust, Test pipe. We both redlined 3rd gear on the highway and he walked by me. I only have K&N, otherwise stock.

HOWEVER: when driving DaTenshi's car, it feels like it has less pickup. He even complained to me of this, "it feels like i lost power" Needless to say he felt better after we ran next to eachother. Good testing grounds, us two

Anywho, bottom line: Your butt dyno will not neccesarily measure how much a certain mod has given you. Only how much it changes your curve.

What i learned from VW tuning: With OTHER MODIFICATIONS, chips are good. Better put, upgrading your AFR and timing is good, be it chip, standalone whatever. What i noticed on VW's was that the real difference noticed with a chip was when you had a cam. If you think about it, all the air entering/exiting your engine has to go through your cylinder head, so cam and p&p can be very pivotal modifications.
Maybe i should shut up tho, the chips for my 2.0 VW were cheap; best in the industry for $100 shipped, pops out and plugs in lol got like 15 horse (dyno tested) w/ 268 cam, intake, exhaust

ok this rant is done, sorry if no one learned anything

EDIT: spelling

I'm pretty sure it is a learning ECU too because it's an upgrade of the stock one. I believe it can adjust similarly to the stock ECU (assuming it's not just working within that correction range to begin with). I retain my stance that the JET chip seems short sighted and should not be done unless you're done with mods.

I aggree, and even beyond this, go with something that you can adjust yourself. To me, $299 seems pricey for what the JET is.

I personally find self-adjusting things good for people who dont want to put any effort into it it will never be as good/complete as something like e-manage, SDS, or whatever.

Steup up to the plate, wait the extra few weeks, buy dented soup cans: save up and do it right!

(and yes, i did think about buying the JIC's instead of the TEINS but to me there is more to "right" then simply spending the most money for the tippy top line setup )

i agree andrew. buy it when youre done with your mods so its programmed for your specific performance. learning with new ones probably isnt as accurate. if you get it make sure you always buy 91+ octane
