hold up before everyone gets exited about a brand new evo engine being 2500 bucks.... that was just the block, ive seen used evo engines go for 5 grand plus
300 HP and FWD? Add a couple grand more for suspension, lsd, tires, broken parts on the lower half of your car. if you just want turbo then do a turbo kit.
you'll prob have to refurbish the turbo (i'm assuming you wont be doing an 8/9 evo engine for cost reasons), and prob rebuild part of the engine for reliability. your modified lancer tranny will most likely fail prematurely as well
if you want to do a cool swap trade in for a subaru 2.5rs and do an sti engine in it. that way you have awd

i hate when people automatically assume that everyone thinks the evo swap will be easy. Wow just cause someone brings up the subject of swapping, it is automatically compared to easily swapping honda motors. Just cause you want an evo engine, again, does not mean you want to be an evo, just want more power. The evo engine can handle waaay more HPs than the lancer. So it would actually be better than just turboing the 4g94. You just gotta beef up the suspension and tranny

you say 300whp and fwd as a negative yet then you say just get a turbo kit?
why all the negativity? there's no reason to refurbish, rebuild, etc anything if you shop around carefully. i mean, it's not like you need a motor mount kit or anything it drops right in. and suspension, tires, etc are kind of a given i dont think many would try to run a swap with skinny tires on a 16 in rim.
like i said, the only real downfall is the cost of an engine right now (i would only deal with VIII or IX motors for the simple fact parts are easy to get) and if i had to pay somebody to do it i sure as hell wouldnt have even bothered.
It's amazing how after 5 years this topic still makes me want to punch people in the ****ing head.
0234, if you take the time to read up on engine swaps, and assuming you have half a brain in your head, I think you'd come to the realization that there is no such thing as a cost effective, much less, "drop-in" engine for the Lancer. If you want to play with engine swaps, buy a Honda. If you want to build your Lancer, be prepared to work with the 4g94 or pay out the anus for an impractical swap with little benefit over simply turbocharging your existing engine.

I agree with Hobie.
This is the cost that has been reported in one Mirage with the Evo swap. In total it cost $6500, including the cost of an Evo 5 front clip, the welding of the tranny by TRE, and installation. Now is that worth it to you, you decide.
SEARCH up and you will find all the answers you need.

if you mean $6500 is the total of having it completely installed, then I'd say its really worth it. Cause a turbo only gets you a little more than the HP from an evo engine. And it costs about $5000. So you can then build on top of that rather than topping out your daily driver at maybe 300hp.

LOL I concur. I know a friend about to do this swap, I'll find out what it costs and settle this.
