Car Stalling Help!!!
Hey guys I have an 03 Lancer ES and every time I stop the car instead of the rpms dropping to Idle it just drops all the way down and dies? WTF!! I bought this car for $700 from a bank repo, So far it has cost me a total price of $3700 to get it on the road and a paint job and some body work. So I guess I cant complain just wanna fix it. Anyways I got all the parts needed to get it on the road and finally started it. It ran great and still runs great. Everything is fine except as soon as I push that clutch in to stop it dies!! It didnt do this when I first drove it for the first couple days then it started out of nowhere. Now it does it everytime. It will idle fine in the driveway but if I rev it up and just let it drop it will either die or come very close to and struggles to come back up to idle and idles at like 400-500 RPM's. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there an idle screw I need to turn up? Thanks
need mo in fo dude!
what (mechanical) was fixed or replaced. did you do the work or a shop.
from your description it could be anything. somethin small, like a clogged air filter and your car cant breathe, to something big like timing or fuel/computer related.

Well I did all the work myself and am a very good mechanic but havent done much work on mitsubishis. Anyways I have a factory service manual for it and I think I found the problem. Just the throttle body was a little clogged up. I sprayed some Carb cleaner only cause I had no throttle body cleaner which I am getting today, and it seemed to help it only dies every so often now and I think after spraying in some throttle body cleaner I should be good to go thanks!!!

I am sure its not the battery as when I purchased the car it had no battery so I went and bought one brand new but I can see where your going with that. The cleaner helped but now it is doing it all over again!! I think I need to just do a better job. That last time was just a 5 min quick job before I had to leave again. Thanks

I would also try removing the throttle position sensor and get some electronics cleaner from your local auto parts store. Hose it down real good and be sure to let it air dry only until it is completely dry! i had a similar problem on my Nissan so it might help with a mitsubishi. Just don't use a carb cleaner, MAF/MAS cleaner, etc. on electronics, sensors, etc. Maybe try cleaning the MAS/MAF with the MAS cleaner too. It may have a dirty contact or something. Also a complete tune-up (plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, oil change too) might help as you don't know when it was last done on a used car.
I would also be really careful about spraying throttle body cleaner directly into your intake manifold. It could blast off a chunk of grime or carbon build up and let it shoot right into your combustion chamber and possibly damage your engine internals.

Thanks alot for all the tips. I did a complete tune up when I bought the car as it was a repo so I did it all. I think I am going to clean the MAF sensor and check the TPS as well. I will let you know how it goes Thanks!!!!
