Throttle body

What this sounds to me is like you would have to open up the whole breathing system to see any gains and that would just be right out redesigning the sucker. Just my .02. I really don't know anything so might be completely wrong.

Missed the point a bit.
Stock factory airbox wasn't designed to be air efficient in mind. Its supposed to baffle noise and restrict breathing capacity going beyond certain rpm. When you replaced it w/ a conical one w/o some of the fatory mess, you can feel the improvement in breathing capacity of the motor . . . isn't struggling as much as before during WOT.
Breathing mod on the TB and intake manifold should only be done for people who are really serious than your basic I/H/E (mild category). If you are in the moderate mod class like cyl head work, replacing stock components, and big $ projects costing from 500-1000 smackers at shot, then this mod is for you, serious downtime.
BTW: I'm not going to the hardcore class - downtime can last over a year and working to re-engineer the car original's performance like working on tranny, swaps, and etc.

Buy saying apature are you talking about the opening for the throttle body on the intake manifold? What about the increase in throtle response in your oppion is it worth the money spent. I am trying to lay down the ground work for serious Hp but not looking at a year worth of down time.
Question for ROCK!!
Hey ROCK, I was reading on this thread that there was no point on upgrading the T.B. to say i.e. 55 mm if your intake was 50 mm, because they same amount of air going thru the 50mm intake is what is going to end up in the 55mm T.B
What is your opinion on this? I already have a RRM Intake installed and I'm planning to upgrade the T.B. soon, but I would like to hear what is your take on this matter?
What is the actual diameter on the RRM intake?

If I remember right stock is 52mm and the RRM is 56mm.
My feeling on the tb is that if you've got the money and wanna do it...do it. Don't expect any miracles or even to necessarily feel any difference, but it certainly can't hurt breathing. Whether it's worth the $270 + return shipping is really up to debate, but I don't regret getting it.

...And my engine compartment is ugly. Trust me.
I'll try to find a good paint today and redo my strut bar.

As for painting like Modern Image car, Powder coated everything. Need to take it off send it to Powder coater. Takes about a week. As for T.B. it is restrictive and turbulent. Larger one eliminates one more restrictions and funnels it down to intake causing air to become denser. Works well enough to make it the next likely mod to exterior of the engine.

Lol nobody here can say you didnt search this is a very old thread. i would say open the pathway for the air to the tb before upgrading it. Such as CAI. And upgrade it once you think its a restriction. What all do you have done to your lancer?
