exhaust
I just wanted to know if i should go through with this or not: i went to a muffler shop in my city and they offered me to put a catback system in my car with bigger tubing and a performance muffler for 350 dollars. now in this sites LancerShopper, they are selling catback systems for 600 and up. so why is it soo much cheaper at this muffler place then the sites? and the 350 dollars was with installation. maybe anyone has gotten work done by a muffler shop could give me insight? all help appreciated.
What diameter piping?
What kind of metal is being used?
How is it being bent(crush or mandrel)?
What brand of muffler?
Generally speaking, you can get a custom setup from a local shop for a lot cheaper, like you pointed out, but you tend to get better "performing" systems from manufacturers like Greddy.

i think its 2.5 inch piping, the metal i have no clue, and the bending no clue. the mark is magnaflow. welli think ill go through with it only because its cheaper and more flow is always better

i have a magnaflow muffler, it helpes out some, but i think i need to open up my piping a bit. Maybe ill save up some money and take it to a place and see how much it will cost me to do just that.
custom catbacks go around 250, i'm getting my at a homeboy's shop for 160. As far as it being mandrel bent, i don't think u need to pay that extra money, it really has no significant gains for lancers, unless ur doing turbo, but even then, u wouldn't be using the 2.5" piping... (although mine will be mandrel bent, only cause i can get it for dirt cheap)
Agreed that mandrel bending is the top option, since it ensures that the piping is as straight as possible, allowing for the exhaust gasses to exit as quickly as possible.
But if you're going to spend the money for turbo, I don't see any reason not to go the extra mile and go mandrel. Why cut corners when you're already dedicating that much money into a turbo setup, right?
