Exclamation Custom CAI Fabrication!

Over the next few days I would like to get as many suggestions as possible as to what everyone here thinks about final placement of the filter, piping routes & anything else that does not damage any stock components or imped closing the hood.

The stock air filter box and tubing is going to be completely removed, a housing created for the MAS, and 3" diameter stainless steel 1/8" pipe will be used for this project.

I personally think I have already figured out the path for this which ends with the air filter in the low left fender right behind the open venting next to the fog light.

Once I've decided the final layout, It should take no longer then 3 days for me to finish the fabrication and be ready for me to test it.

Once this is completed and testing I'll be posting the steps it took and will also be willing to fabricate this assembly for other members on this site that are willing to pay for material costs upfront.

Lets get going!

that's the path i've seen for all CAIs on a lancer. You don't want an "open" vent to the intake though imo because you don't want your filter getting wet. it will get plenty of cold air just sitting down there with the vent closed(stock)

i was thinking something like mounting it in between the bumper in the grill and route it up like the turbo on the evo will be.

like in between the radiator and the bumper where the main license plate is https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...4&d=1190578170

Ever put your hand on the radiator? That'd quickly become a Hot Air Intake.

I still havent been able to start welding but we have finished the prebuild now, I would take pictures but my fiance took my camera last night and wont be back till tomorrow so im going to hold off on anything else till tomorrow to ensure you guys have a full instructional thread to work off in the future...needless to say...with just the test tubing i saw i very nice boost on launch and my 80-100 was a good little jump in performance in 3rd gear...got up to 120 very easy i felt that with that being the only thing ive done to my car so far...and it not even being fully built that this car will start to shine on the street vs all cars in its class...si's are gonna be toast

Oh and after this project the full exhaust will be next...I love being able to custom fab my own ****

yea. well go as free as possible, and if you don't care for quiet that shouldn't be a problem!

take a look in summit for some free flow cats and flow through mufflers (if any at all ).

We finished the build for SAI seeing as we found no possible way of getting 3 inch piping into the side with the hood closing (the CAI i had planned on building)...the bat was the problem...but the other problem with the sai that we created is that now the car things my red line is 4K instead of 6.5K...so with that being said im kinda stumped...I tried letting the ecu figure it out and adapt as I saw in some other threads with previous lancers...but no luck there...so does anyone have a solution that doesnt require a dealers tuning touch?

Sounds like you are in safe mode...fix the MAFS and it will go back to an open loop.

MAFS, definately. It's obstructed, out of range, damaged, or not connected correctly. Unfortunately you can't fix out of range at the MAF, that's a ECU fix and from what RRM has said that looks to be not only tough, but requires probably more gear than you (or any one else here most likely) has on hand.
