Evo 6 build.. BILLET exhaust manifold build in progress !!!
hey guys,
finally started doing some work on my Evo-6 GSR. i've had it for about 1 1/2 years. it was not in very good condition when i purchased it. i just finished restoring is in & out into oem condition with a complete paint and mechanical overhaul. this car will be a street car for the next year or so...so the upgrades planned aren't anything too crazy.
mods going in--
FP Green 73HTA with vband hot side
new custom 3" inch 321 s/s downpipe
new custom 3" inch 321 s/s exhaust system
k&n air filter with custom 321 s/s intake (with re-circ)
garrett fmic core with custom end-tanks/ intercooler piping
Tial MVS waste gate with vband dump
new 321 s/s tubular manifold (last on the list to start)
dress up items --
samco sport radiator hoses
ralliart japan shift knob/oil filler cap/radiator cap
parts in the pipe-line --
upgraded internals
GEMS stand alone ecu
Exedy twin-plate
suspension upgrade (most likely Ohlins)
i do all fabrication me self as i am a fabricator by trade. like i mentioned..this build is nothing too crazy...just want something fast spooling to have fun on the streets. future plans include going with a larger turbo set up..but thats not till next year...
here's some pics...
turbo mounted on the car...
its was a tight fit...but here's the full vband downpipe i fabricated...
stock muffler mated to the 3" piping...Police/laws are strict here on noise levels etc...at some point i will fabricate a straight through muffler and fit..but for now...oem muffler will be used...
made up a quick MAF adapter for the k&n filter....fabrication of intake pipe is next on the list..
thats it for now guys....should have a few more pics/updates in the next few days as i am still working on the car when time permits...

here's a quick shot of the exhaust piping. sorry about the pic quality..but phone camera isnt that great...
today i am working on the intake pipe for the Green. the samco radiator hoses i purchased for the car dont fit. the upper hose was too long..ok no biggie...trimmed it a bit from both side and it fit. the lower hose is completely off...despite being the wrong shape, its also too long..i dont know if i was sent a kit for a different evo model....
back to stock lower hose to get the job done till i figure something out...

Nice work mate!
Few suggestions.
1. Run a flex-join in the front pipe or you'll have issues cracking things, even with V-Bands.
2. For the rear muffler, grab a "Varex" muffler from a Australian company called "X-Force". They have a electrically controlled flapper valve in the muffler that changes between straight through and a ~2inch baffled outlet. We also have really tight policing here over noise and emmisions and we all use them successfully. Sounds the same as standard when closed, doesn't restrict power when open so is hte best of both worlds.

thanks benja for your kind comments. i have seen the muffler you are talking about..it does look the bizz.
i ordered a flex joint for the downpipe, but it didnt arrive on time, i couldnt wait till it arrived because i dont get time to work on my own cars very often..so had some free time and wanted to get everything done asap. once it gets to me..i will just install it on the downpipe.

today i managed to finish the intake pipe....was going to re-circ the blow off..but i may change bov's very soon...so i thought i'd wait till thats done to decide whether to re-circ. just a matter of fabricating/welding the fitting on..so no biggie..
now i've begun on the fmic piping...will try to snap some pics tomorrow of the progress there...

took her out yesterday...my friend snapped some pics for me
3" straight through exhaust + stock muffler = not so loud, but sounds a like *** hahah..!! noticed a few crack on the cast manifold. didnt really waste time with that as i plan to build a new manifold soon anyhow.
will post more pic when i get em' ..
