K&N's have a high flow, but they're not too great at actually filtering the incoming air.

$130 for a just a drop in filter????? thats nuts. For another $60 - $70 depending on where you go, you can get the Fujita short ram air that has dyno'd almost 10hp to the wheels, and they have those dyno's available to see. So that is guaranteed for a just $60 - $70 more rather then not seeing any dyno at all on a drop in filter. I'll be getting the Fujita for sure now.

Don't worry guys, I can get you guys the Fujita for 165$ if you guys really wanted. 100+ for a drop in is something else though.. I guess we should wait for dynos.

K&N were notorious for gunking up the MAF on Subarus. Given how close the 2008's MAF is to the airbox, I have to wonder if it'll be the same.

I've never heard any complains about Works drop-ins.

If you want an SRI, then get one. Don't compare apples to oranges. It's just wasting time.

In terms of filtration, flow and quality our filter is second to none. With a great design and durable construction this filter will last a very long time while continuing to flow and filter well if properly cared. Also, like the EVO VIII and IX, we like the design of the '08 Lancer airbox. It is a well designed sealed system with a fresh air scoop to keep the more dense cool air flowing in, without sucking in higher temperature air from the engine bay.

Jamie responded to similar inquiries about our EVO filter which uses the same construction process and I thought his remarks were relevant to the discusssion so here is what he had to say:

We've flow tested the WORKS filter vs. others and were pleasantly suprised to come out on top (even foam-based filters that don't filter as effeciently). As far as filtration, most other companies are using a cotton gauze. If you're familiar with it, you'll notice that the openings on the gauze are highly irregular and some are huge (relatively speaking). One of the things that sets the WORKS filter apart is the fact that we use a cotton fabric. The openings on the fabric are both regular and consistent in shape and relatively small in size. (You can get somewhat of an idea by looking at the your clothing.) This allows the WORKS filter to both breath efficiently and filter effectively. We're not big fans of extended-interval maintainence for any item on our vehicles and this is exemplified by the cleaning schedule we recommend: roughly with each oil change, not with each timing belt

From what I've read, it's still debatable whether or not the oil on a filter can even come off and onto the MAF, especially if you do not over-oil it when cleaning. However, I would be very surprised if the Works air filter uses a different type of oil, so it should be susceptible to MAF problems as well (assuming other filters actually are too).

The WORKS Brain Flash for the 2008 Lancer is under development. Things are making progress, but no ETA for release at the moment.

WORKS has not encountered any issues with the oil making it's way beyond the filter. We pre-oil them with a light coating and recommend the same for maintenance.

I just installed the WORKS filter today.

First Impressions (I had an RRM SRI installed):
There's no noticeable decrease in power between this and the RRM SRI. I'll keep you guys posted on any changes to 0-60 times and gas mileage. It's much quieter in the cabin: when using the hands-free bluetooth, it's easier to hear and be heard. And, you can keep a conversational tone to your voice even when banging through gears on an entrance ramp...no more trying to shout over the noise. The RRM exhaust still sounds great inside & outside the car with its nice, deep drone. I can only assume the same would go for any other exhaust as well. Installation is pretty easy & straightforward...after all it's an air filter. Although, if you have the RRM front strut bar, expect to spend an extra 5 minutes to remove & reinstall, as it is not very stock airbox friendly. This is also a nice mod for any Auto Xrs out there, as it would keep you in the stock class (assuming no other mods).

The Filter Itself:

The Works Drop-In really does work.

The engine starts in 2 - 3 revolutions. Used to be 3 - 4. Ive even had it start in just 1 turnover. That never happened before. Im not making this **** up.

I did a blind test with a friend and he could tell when it was in and when it wasn't.

The Engine is getting cold air from the front of the grill and not engine bay air.

The Lancer used to sound underpowered and now it sounds like a commanding NA motor.

I have not independently Dyno'd the car but it is performance you can feel. Just when you think its in your head, just pop in the old filter. There is no doubt, Its working.
