U.S Lancer MAS honeycomb

I was wondering if i removed the honeycomb inside the MAS, will i get some HP gains or will i just be disturbing the air and ruining my engine in the long run?

I removed the restrictor plate off mine temporarily and attempted to add enough gas with my AFC to get it running right and found out you cant add enough without some sort of other fuel system mod. The only sucessful thing you can to is the back the screw out trick and that requires an AFC too.

Wouldn't you want to lean it out with an AFC? I thought that when you took off the restrictor plate, the engine ran rich.

LOL!!!!! I have to show Vince (Guru_Del) this thread. While we were putting on my typhoon intake we kept making jokes about the MAS Sensors being overrated and how we could remove it for better airflow. But in all seriousness, DO NOT EVEN TOUCH IT!!!! Even the slightest bend in any of the honeycombs would disturb the airflow like hell. Do urself a favor, don't mess with the MAS otherwise u have to buy a WHOLE new one from the dealer for ALOT of money.

lets just say...hypothetically that i ACCIDENTLY bent a few combs but bent them back..they are not exactly honeycombs but rather like trapizoidal shaped....is this affecting my performance??

yea... u go right ahead and remove the honeycomb stuff in ur MAF sensor, go for it. I'd love to see the check engine light u git when u take it off and how u had to go buy a new one for being such a dumbass, y don't u keep us posted on how it goes and if u could run a before and after dyno so we can see how "kool" u are with ur good idea there buddy. You could be the first dumbass on this site to come up with an idea that would lose a grip of horsepower on a motor that alredy comes with very little.

Dragon, I'm sure you could have put that in less insulting terms.

One or two people have removed/damaged their MAFs and the end result wasn't pretty. If I remember correctly it resulted in the ECU adjusting and running pig rich and stalling.

Rollerpyro, when you remove the restrictor plate you get more airflow. The ECU will accomodate by richening up the AFR. Assuming you could control it and the MAF wasan't issuing error codes, you could still lean out the AFR to whatever you desire and have more air going towards combustion.
