Throttle Body Spacer

A friend of mine has a throttle body spacer on his Civic SI, it sounds really cool, and he says it improved performance a lot. Any idea if anyone has put one on a lancer, or if anyone is R&D'ing one of these for our cars?

Subaru owners show decent gains, but that's a WHOLE different motor style.

Not sure how possible it'd be on this car, given the orientation of everything. No one is R&Ding it that I know of.

Really only gives the intake a different sound. Might whistle if it is cut just right.

Yeah, I saw a show on the Powerblock on Spike TV where they pulled an additional 18 hp @ the FW from just a 1" spacer below the carb. Amazing!

The way it is supposed to work is vortex generation. Things like the turbonator and other similar products create more resistance because there is more material
in the way. A TB spacer is spiral cut around the edges and does the same thing but without all the pieces of metal in the way slowing the air down.

It really does work, but, just like an intake, every cars results will vary. Smaller motors will not see thoes numbers. It also greatly depends on vender design.

Even if people were interested in buying this TB spacer, where would you get it? I haven't seen it out yet. (or i'm a little on new mods)

There are none out as of yet, that I know of, but this is an easy job for a small machine shop.

Just make sure its cut from a high grade aluminuim and keep it at or less than 1.5 inches in thickness. They should also be able to spiral cut the intake lip.

You will also need some longer TB bolts.

No, It will not harm the car in any way. It is past the MAF, and TB so there is no air flow interuption to any major sensors. Just google some pics and take the car to a machine shop for measurements. they should be able to give u a price. Bring the pics with you. Not everyone is into cars. They might not know what you are asking for at first.

Have any more diameters for TBS? How wide should the aluminum block be? and would it be worth my while to try and get a TBS gasket?

1" is a good size.

Yeah, you'd want 2 TB gaskets - one for each side of the spacer.

^Dito, Don't go over 1.5 inches. Also, Make sure the gaskets don't extend into the path of incoming air! You may need to trim it a little! But be careful!!!!!! Dont try and be a hero and trim the gaskets with it on the manifold!!!!!!
