Pulley and oil leak - both stock and RRM *IMPORTANT*
the pulley is all aluminum , the stock one is metal , I talked to 4 differant guys 3 who have been racing cars for years and they told me , ( why is it all aluminum , it should have a metal center attached or some sort of metal sleeve so the seal wont gring it down.) I said oh !!!! then he showed me a sleeve ... hmmmmm................
Whoever wants to make a complaint this website will call mitsubishi to make them fix this problem and the guy said for everyone who has this problem call them , the more and the sooner the better !!!!!

I thought i saw a TSB that was posted with something about an oil seal. I don't know if this could be for this type of issue. "Revised Valve Stem and or Crankshaft Oil Seal Service" is the name of the TSB that is posted in the Troubleshooting section. I'm a noob when it comes to deep engine work, but this sounded somewhat close when I thought about it. Just thought I'd menion it.
. I couldn't fully see that TSB before until I printed it out. The TSB looks to be just saying that there is an update to the service manual on this topic. I guess I should learn to read more. Hopfully this didn't mislead anyone
. Anyhow, I'll probably talk to my dealership and see what they say about this issue and see if they'll take a look at it under warranty.
So I am a total noob

So did RRM ever answer what grade of aircraft aluminum it was, to me we are talking in the 2000's and all I saw was him mention something about 100 - 1000

edit: thanks, I am just thinking of getting this and would like a bit more information first.

^ no, he never said the grade of aluminum used.. he just said that its the same grade they have used for the 100's of 2008 lancer pulleys and the 1000's they have made for other models.
I think its pretty clear that its not the grade of aluminum they used.. this is definitly the 4b11s' main seal problem.
BTW, I didnt say this before.. But, thanks for the quick response RRM, its nice to know that you read our concerns and looked right into it for us.. if it wasnt for you guys looking at that stock pulley, we would all be unaware of the potential problems with the main seals in the 2008 lancers.
On a side note.. to RRM...
I was talking with a co-worker (He is pretty knowlegable when it comes to engines), and He said that I should'nt remove the aluminum pulley becuase the seal has already expanded. His thinking is that if I remove it, I may damage the seal.. or when I put the stock pulley back in, it might rub even harder becuase there is no wear mark on my stock pulley... cuaseing the main seal to degrade even faster.
I looked and there is no oil on or around the RRM pulley as of yet.
Since you guys have experience in such things, what is your professonal opinion on the matter?
Thanks,
Wasper

now i really dont know if i should install the pulley now. knowing that rrm sold a lot of these pullies for the 08's and seeing only 1 of em was deffective or something happened, steers me just to install it and see what happens in the near future. i have other parts from rrm never had a prob and loving the stuff, so im pretty confident that the pully will work fine.

the problem is not the rrm puley but our seals on our car .
I have installed my rrm pulley a few thousand Km's ago. I just took a look at the stock pulley sitting in my garage and it has a wear line started as well. What steps should I take next? Reinstall the stock one? Just leave it as is? Talk to my dealership and tell them i have an aftermarkey pulley? Im totally lost...
They are going to wonder why you took it off. You shouldnt tell them you took ot off and just show them the pics posted in this thread and have them check it out. The warranty is something they are eager to void so dont give them a reason.
