Pulley and oil leak - both stock and RRM *IMPORTANT*

I bought the pulley in december after 4 months i started to leak oil . The mechanic said the aluminum pulley was the cause . Hear is a picture of the groove that the seal made on the pulley.......
the stock pulley is metal btw. Im not sure what to think . But i do like Road Races parts.

FIrst time ever. Could have been over torqued or something. We have a bout 500 of them out there and this is the first. Get new main seal and send us the pulley for inspections. Based on what we see , we will prolly replace it for free even though The part is not the issue based on .1% that have had this problem. IE you are the only one!

I ordered the seal but at is going to cost me more money to put it on , I spent $100 to have it looked at and to put the stock pulley back on , and the new seal will be here in a week....more money to put the new seal on is going to jack me all up...

its the risk u take by running aftermarket parts.... i can admit that i was scared of running the pully...thats why i sold mine...but with that i got the exhaust.. very nice...

Most likely just unlucky him. Remember, even a brand new motor can have a small problem that causes a failure. Or it could have been installed improperly (not blaming, just saying it COULD be). Just remember - something can always go wrong. It's pure luck if everything goes right all the time. That's why your car comes with a warranty - because even knows that stuff can die prematurely.

i have a impact gun and trust me its hard to go above 150lbs of torque unless you have a strong heavy duty air impact gun. Mine is a kawasaki electric. So i don't think it was over torqued. Just IMO

True, i also drive alot more than most people i have almost 25,000 mile with the pulley so we will see what happens with people who put the pulley on and drive it for a while

the pulley is all aluminum , the stock one is metal , I talked to 4 differant guys 3 who have been racing cars for years and they told me , ( why is it all aluminum , it should have a metal center attached or some sort of metal sleeve so the seal wont gring it down.) I said oh !!!! then he showed me a sleeve ... hmmmmm................

Its unfortunate, but Its a numbers game, but if the failure rate can be calculated here, 1 out of hundreds doesnt exactly = a bad product overall. Hey it happens, spark plugs, pulleys exhausts. It comes down to how often and I must say, you would be the first person I heard of with this one. All that said a pulley is more serious then you think and shouldnt be branded in the same category as the intakes and exhausts which are true bolt on class items. A pulley has to be perfect or you will have problems. To counter that, it is always wise to inspect all the mods you install on a regular basis.
