6A12 Engine Swap
*This is an already searched topic, I've done my homework before bringing it to the boards.
Ok, so RPW says on they're website that they're are 7 options for swapping out the 4G94 and replacing it with an engine that makes more reliable hp. Reliable meaning, you add parts and you get discernable hp gains, not this add intake, exhaust, headers and get 7 hp....i'm talking 27 hp outta some basic mods.
I have 2 questions:
1) Is www.flashoptions.com a reputable used engine dealer? Anyone dealt with them before. It's really hard finding the 6A12 engine I'm looking for and they seem to to be the only one that has it: http://www.flashoptions.com/product.asp?prodID=158
2) Anyone know of some links or companies that make parts or turbos for this engine (Mitsubishi FTO engine)?
For those who are interested the engine I'm looking at is a
6A12 DOHC 24 Valve Mivec engine which comes from a Mitsubishi FTO, it is 2.0L DUAL OVERHEAD CAM (YAYYYYYY
) it produces 200 hp at 7500 rpm and it's a V6
.
And for all you who don't believe it can be done:
http://www.rpw.com.au/Performance%20.../lancer103.htm
It's the #3 swap listed on the RPW website, which means it's very duable, already done by some people and in terms of expense, it's not going to cost you an arm and a leg.

I have seen it done before. However, since the FTO is not a great selling car, you might run into trouble getting some extra parts. Everything has to be imported.
On the other, it seems like Mitsu finally decided to get the MIVEC engines into the US....with a 10 year delay, you should be able to find more and more shop/mechanics with knowledge in these engines in the upcoming future.

Hmmmm well I can probably find a front clip, it's just a matter of finding the "performance" parts for the engine......
The only other alternative I can think of is wait for the RPW 4g94 DOHC engine to come out.......
Do you have any suggestions?

I went back to your original post, I have never heard of/dealt with that flashoptions.com you mentioned, so I can't give you any comment on that.
For question (2), I think your best option is to check on some Aussie/NZ message boards to find out. Although I doubt there is any turbo/SC kit for the FTO, you might be able to find it. Remember, FTO was never a mod-friendly car (people either buy EVO or GTO, unless they want a daily-driver with some kicks).
If you know me long enough, you know I will always suggest to build on whatever you have for now until you reach the max potential of your current engine. IF your goal in performance is not that far off, stick with what you have. Mitsu cars are never swap-friendly.
However, like you said, a safer bet would be waiting for RPW DOHC version of the 4G94....
Just my opinion, hope you'll find more useful info in your research. Cheers

It's really a shame that that one MIVEC site is down. They had the pics of the conversion Lan is mentioning into a silver Lancer (in Australia). The engine was larger but did fit with TONS of tweaks and trimming of some plastic trim pieces and relocation of some parts (author repeatedly mentioned that it was not easy what so ever) and they also switched transmissions from an automatic to a manual. In my opinion though, waaaaay to much work granted the returns.

Beleive it or not the engine drops right into the stock lancer / mirage engine bay using some of the same engine mounts and all the stock mounting points.
WE have now done two of these in the eastern states and two in perth and vision imports have one in there 5g mirage as well and are awaiting us to wire up the haltech for them.
One guy here iftted the 6A12 into his car in 3 hours once he removed the old 4g15 engine.
We stock the complete conversion kits here with everything you need so if you want one just let us know.
Spare parts are also readily available at competitive pricing as well.

The kit comes with engine, gearbox, cv shafts, eletrical, starter motor, mounts, Haltech programmable computer, wiring connectors, alternator, air conditioning unit, exhaust stock or optional RPW header conversion kit.
The average price is around $4500 - $5000.00 ADU$ for this kit dependig upon what it costs us for the kit at that time.
We do manafacture a turbo kit for teh fto now but it would not fit into a lancer / mirage not enough room.

The output of those MIVEC V6's I think was 200 rated from the factory but they were often significantly lower at the wheel, perhaps stemming from Mitsubishi not being all to honest on its output. Just something to be wary abuot. The real engine to get would be the DOHC 1.8L turbo from the Lancer GSR's.
You sure as hell won't be fitting any sort of centrifugal supercharger if there's no room for a turbo. Maybe some sort of Eaton setup but that would be a tight fit between the cylinder banks and hood. I really wish I could show you how snug the engine fit was in a 5G Mirage and the Lancer is bay is not significantly larger.
