N/A Lancer 2008 build up
I think Honda motors are just better period. This doesn't mean I want to drive a Honda, it just means I appreciate what they can do. Once you get into forced induction though hondas are crap.
eh... it's that 9k RPM readline that gives them the HP per L edge over most other engines.
Beef up the innards of the Mitsu engine so we can push them to 9K RPM and things start to even out.
But, yeah, as a starting base the Honda engines do have a distinct advantage.

How much would you all say building up the 4b11 would cost?
And as far as the 200whp being "fun but not fast".
CVT Takes about what.. 20% power? say, 150hp rating down to 120whp.
If you put a CVT up to 200whp, that means your car is pushing ~250HP, thats damn close to evo territory and definitely Ralliart competition worthy, however im sure its cheaper to just buy an evo. Even if we factor a manual tranny thats putting down 130whp, bringing it to 200whp is a sick feat and would probably give an RRM Turbo GTS a run for its money.
Btw, i am no expert and if any of my thinking is unlogical, please tell me. I'm learning this stuff just as much as any other new guy, but i seem to feel pretty confident in my logical thinking process in this sense.

its gonna cost you a pretty penny be ready to put some money into it..hopefully money isnt an issue for you..like its not for me..
but to the rest of you. we obviously have a lot of choices in building up this lancer..and as ive stated before money really isnt an issue for me at the moment..so with that being said do you guys think its worth at least not trying but at least looking into maybe finding a wrecked outlander with AWD and trying to swap it on our lancers..since the outlander and lancer are very very similar? of course its not that easy but you get my point..also i was thinking into maybe finding a wrecked outlander v6. and swapping it into the lancer and find someone who would build a custom turbo. or do you think it would be too much..i mean i dont want to spend half of what i payed for the car just to get a new motor and AWD..its not that big a deal..just something that came across my mind..
im more interested in the AWD than i am the motor..i know building it up myself without a swap i can save money and gas by going turbo and doing it right

who says mitsu dont make good N/A engines... i think your forgetting the 4G92 ( 1.6L MIVEC ) from the cyborg mirage and the 6A11? ( 2L V6 MIVEC ) from the FTO GPX. The 2L V6 was making about 200hp and it had a red line of 8000rpm. The 1.6L had a similar red line and was making good power too. Both engines are just as good performance wise as their honda counterparts and sound better doing it.
Ever since they stopped producing the FTO though it seems mitsu arent putting any work into making high perf N/A engines. Maybey they need to bring out another small sports car/roadster kinda thing and show they can still do N/A.

as for making the car AWD? you would have to spend so much money and do so much work it'd be rediculous, be a totally different car. in fact, it would be an underperforming evo for the same price. lol.

you know i was thinking the exact same thing a while back... that is putting a V6 outlander engine in the lancer. It shouldnt have any problems fitting since the chassis is the same the only thing is it only comes in auto in that spec level that i know of so you'll have to match it up to the 5spd in your lancer. The only issue i see is that it may trip out with the electronics since the AWD electronics system will be missing unless of course you go to the trouble of keeping those electronics and just stashing them away somewhere.
But all in all, a very possible option and the having a V6 lancer is always impressive, just like when people put the V6 fto engine in the CE series. Can really surprise some people and you get to stick with N/A power. I think the outlander gets something like 140-150kw from that V6 so you'd already be at the power level you want. i think the v6 outlander has awd as optional doesn't it. the transmission is different, i don't believe the v6 has the paddle shifters like the i4. but if you guys are using standards anyways that doesnt matter.
it's still a lot of money though and you better be a real damn mechanic if you're gonna do it.
a 12k miles refurbished outlander engine goes for about 1700 on the sites iv seen. that's not too bad, but it is a lot for something that may not work, WILL be risky and WILL void your warranty on a brand new car obviously. gotta be really in to the car and really have some knowledge to do this.

I dunno, maybe its just me, but i think if you're gonna put that much money into an NA build, why not just turbo and beef everything up. I mean yeah theres the bragging rights of NA, but at the end of the day its all about building a fun car to drive, and turbo is A LOT of fun.

You can spend 10K and get the NA 4 banger up to 200whp (maybe) naturally aspirated, but then you have a car with maxed out potential. Or you can spend 5k on a turbo kit, and have a car with a good amoutn of power (over 200whp) and the option to spend the other 5k on internal upgrades and go out hunting evos. ORRRRRR why not go forward with the V6 Swap and turbo that. If you're gonna spend the money on something different, why not go big? Think about being the first lancer out there with not only a V6, but a boosted V6. Then you're out there passing evos by. You can practically turbocharge any car, any engine. its just a matter of the mechanical know how, and your problem solving ability. But if you're able to do an engine swap, yu can probably turbo a car. If you're gonna pay a shop to do big swaps, and turboing your car, etc, to me in the end its a poor decision, because you're paying someone else to drastically change your car, and if a problem arises on the road, then you have no idea what went into the build, and you're ****ed.

thats true i did a lot of thinking about that and thought..other than having a gas guzzling v6 why not just go turbo and get more hp without going through the trouble?

parts+labor+other expense incurred for a project that has never been done before for 5-6k??? hell no!
and even if you were to do this, the best bet would be the AWD system from the JDM galant fortis, which is the same as the outlander but it has already been adapted into the lancer body. ecu, etc. will probably have to be jdm also. the good thing is that it's essentially a bolt on process. the bad part is you'd have to import the parts. good luck with a 5-6k budget.
I think 10000$ is a more likely budget for a project like that. To help put it in perspective, a lot of 2003-2006 lancer people have said they were going to do the swap only to drop it once they were already 5000$ in.
but its something i may do before or after turbo. thats what im trying to determine. i may start as early as october after my body work is done but untill then im gonna do a lot of research to try to determine a ballpark number..but i really dont know where to start..
