RPM and MPH Help

I would really appreciate if someone with an 02-03 OZ 5spd Manual to check something out for me with the car reponse and post the results back here for me please. Bone stock to lightly modded cars (Intake, Exhaust) would be a great.

1.The next time you are taking a drive put your car in 3rd gear and lock the cruise control to 40mph then record where your rpms are steady.
2.Next put your car in 5th gear and lock the cruise control to 40mph then record where your rpms are steady.
3. Repeat these steps for 20mph then 60mph.
4. Post the results here.

I am trying to anaylse the stock ecu map for the OZ and I need this info to compare with my info that I did.

Thank you very much in advance.

Every car will be exactly the same. Why was this question even asked? Just check with your car.

I just thought about this some more. Are you saying that you think the gear ratios are somehow different from car to car? Like sometimes they put 42 teeth on the gear and sometimes they put 50?

I think someone needs to think this through a little more. The only thing that can cause the RPM at a given road speed in a given gear to vary between cars is the circumference of the tires.

Number of teeth has no bearing on the gear ratios, that is dictated by gear sizes and ratios.

Gear ratio = Number of teeth on gear one : Number of teeth on gear two

Size is irrelevant in gears. You might be thinking of how pulleys work, their ratios are determined by size.

^ I thought of that, so me and a friend put back on our stock OZ rims n Tires and tried this test and our result were diff.

We just need one more lancer to confirm this. N e one else tried?

All the F5M42 trannies are the same. Assuming the same tire sizes with the same amount of tread remaining, EVERY SINGLE LANCER WILL RUN THE SAME RPMS AT THE SAME ROAD SPEED. End of story.

Did you have the same trans? (manual vs auto)

Haha well thats true, hope they weren't dumb enough to be comparing 3rd gear in an auto with 3rd gear in a 5-speed. You never know though.

Anyway, tire tread depth could cause maybe a 2-3 mph variation, assuming that one car has bald tires and another has brand new ones.

I assume, tire pressure would also affect this.

Um how about no..... Please note in my 1st post I did request for someone with a manual transmission to try this for me to make sure that no automatic people posted information.

I am just trying to get some data for something I notice that's it.
