500+ Miles on a full tank True

I was on a website called cleanmgp.com and it showed me how to save gas, I live in San Bernardino CA , and i work in Long Beach CA 75 miles just to work ! Well i have been getting 325 to 350 miles on a full tank filling up every two days , so my buddy gave me this site to check out .... I started to drive the way they recomend , ( Patience is the key but i do like to drive fast so it sucked at first.. ) so i filled up friday went to work , my mpg's started to go up right away ! after two days I had 300 miles and Half a tank of gas left . I said to myself wow it works i started taking pictures on my phone to show my friends , Well the best the cars MPG'S said was 46.6 , maybe not right on but I did get 511.7 miles on a full tank, right when the gas light came on i filled up so i still had at least 30 miles or more i could GO now it was tuesday and i saved a day and a halfs worth of gas! What i did ---- I warmed the car up first as i took off i shifted when i hit 2000 rpm every gear , when i was coming to a stop i put it in nuetral and let it coast to a stop, on the freeway i drove at 60miles light very light on the gas behind trucks on the slow lane , down hills i put it in neutral as well .... yeah i know i drove like an old man but its for work when i drive like this .... hears pictures after i passed 300miles ....

mpg meter started rising

the highest the car showed

511.7 when the light came on

this is what the cars mpg said at the end of this test

try it if you want to save gas, check out that site to see other cars doing the same ....

Nice Post bro.... I tried hypermileing for a few and it did help alot. I dont do it anymore but these tips as well as hypermileing to some degree are well worth the try.

Nice. I could never stand driving like that though, I have to go at least 70 on freeways to keep sane .

If you have the MMCS it will show you more info on your fuel usage (including miles driven since last refuel, no need to reset your trip meter). Also, one of the hidden menus will show you instantaneous fuel consumption in mL/sec or something like that (hold SET+NAVI for service menu, then hold MENU for another set of menus). As for putting the car in neutral, if you have a manual transmission, I think you'll find you use even less fuel buy coasting to a stop in gear. The reason is no fuel is used when the car has momentum, whereas in neutral fuel has to be used to keep the car at idle.

So 2k isn't to low to switch gears? I always thought if I shifted that early I would lose gas because the engine would be working harder. I usually shift when I feel like the car can carry on to the next gear smoothly. It's different each gear. I think from 1st to second it's pretty fast, so don't remember what RPM. Second to third I switch at like 2800. Third to fourth at about 2500(40mph). From fourth to fifth at like 2500(60 mph) I think.

I'm sorry but that is just false, if the engine is running, fuel is being used.

Be careful shifting too early, low speeds in high gear could cause the clutch to slip especially on a heavy car like the Lancer. Clutch replacement might cost more than the fuel you save.

when you coast the fuel injectors shut off and the engine runs on the compression from moving. THats why your fuel guage will show no fuel being used when you do this. In neutral the engine has to keep itself going by burning gas.

Im not 100% sure, but close to it on this. Plus it works and I do it all the time.

stuff like turning off your engine while moving might save you c few bucks here and there. but its dangerous and seriously kills your engine. heat rises when you turn off. coolant stop circulating. heat stressing your engine tranny and related systems.

Most of that is true. Coasting down hill in gear or neutral, shifting before 3K rpm (thats the actual number that means something, 2K is a bit to early). I get close to 400 miles per tank. I drive 75 on the highways, and maybe 5+ over speed limit in town. I have a big hill that I have to go down on my way to work, where as soon as it starts downward I put it in neutral and just coast. I've gotten upto 75-80 just being neutral when i was doing 65 before the hill. I don't put it back in gear till about 65mph again. Although I'm naturally quick on the take off (not so quick its like i'm racing, but quick enough that the ppl at the light got maybe across by the time i'm 7 car lengths away), but that hasn't really affected my gas milage any.

Don't be sorry, just don't let it happen again.

In a manual transmission car the fuel injectors are turned off during decel.

It is called decel fuel cut, look it up. Or better yet, look for yourself with a datalogger. IDC will go to ZERO during this time.

It is not a feature.

There are quite a few brands of cars that do this. Look it up.
