I have an Evo 8 so may not apply, but I purchased a magnaflow Ti based on a wider torque band than almost all the others I could find a dyno for. Buschur being the only other one close.

For sound you could do a search on youtube, quite a few soundclips on there. Magnaflow used to have sound clips right on their website but I bought mine almost three years ago.

how much money have you saved up? you wanting a full exhaust or just an axle back?

Injen Header-back exhaust - CA models only
Most power

Magnaflow True Catback exhaust - requires cutting stock exhaust
slightly less power than the injen headerback

Axle-backs:
Injen
Greddy
HKS
Tanabe
Works
RRM

all make about the same amount of power

if you are wanting power than make sure you get either the Injen header-back or the Magnaflow cat back.
if you don't have that much cash, then any of those axle-backs will do. It's really just personal preference on how they look. Most of them sound similar too (except for the Tanabe, which is a low profile exhaust)
go on youtube and find some sound clips of them on the Lancer, or other 4cyl engines and it will give you an idea on the sound differences

here are most of the exhausts available on the market:

well if u r just doing like intake and exhaust, get an axleback and save ur money for rims/tires.. if u plan on doing more parts plus an N/A tune.. get either the Injen headerback (for PZEV only) or get the magnaflow..

it wont bolt up to the header.. but u can always take it to a muffler shop and have them bolt it up theyll need to add a small piece of pipe to make it fit
