Unhappy Help: Idle Control Valve

My lancer is idling very high (1750 rpm) when warm.
On start up (in the cold) it idles around 1000 rpm, then gradually moves up to 1750 rpm.
When placing it in neutral, costing to a stop it surges up and down from 1000 to 1500 before settling at 1750 when fully stopped.

Changed PCV valve.
Cleaned Map sensor.
Cleaned Throttle body.

I was told that it is probably the Idle control Valve (motor)?

Question #1: Is their a valve and a motor, or are they refering to the same thing? (the tripod bolted small motor under the throttle body?)

Question #2: Can I take off the motor and clean it (I've read about this with BMW's etc.? Or am I looking at purchasing a new unit for a ridiculous price?

Thanks guys.

Um, im not totally sure, but i know hondas have this funny thing happen to them when you dont bleed out all the air from the coolant system. They do the same thing you are describing. HOWEVER, I know this isnt a honda. You might get some electric motor cleaner and try to clean it to see if that helps. If it comes down to buying one, PM me, I have an extra for sale so you dont get raped by a dealership. Oh and btw, are you throwing any codes yet? Also, have you disconnected your battery recently? If not, you might try disconnecting it and let it sit for ten minutes to reset the ecu and let it relearn and see if the issue goes away.

I'll try some electric motor cleaner and see if that helps.
I had it scanned: Said: "The mass air flow sensor was having a difficulty reading or getting a signal", so I cleaned it.
and also said: "High idle".
I did disconnect my battery a few times. Let it idle for 20 minutes then drive. No change. When I did disconnect I let it sit for an hour before reconnecting.

Anyone have a surging Idle like this?

Might be that the MAF is bad. Look in the FSMs and see testing procedures for it. If it comes down to being the MAF let me know because I have one available too.

Where is the FSM's? What is this? Thanks

Update: I took off the motor. Looked fine. Reconnected it. And turned key forward, motor moved slightly in and out, a couple mm. Is it supposed to move more?

Next, I'll check the FSM once I know what that is?

Thanks guys

hrmm.. well mines idled at about 2k for a while now. figured i broke something. but i have alot of stuff not hooked up. maf of icv would seem to be the most likely issue. (mine also hunts for an idle when i decelerate, so i always thought i had a vacuum leak somewhere, but never could find it.. but i also never really cared to figure it out.) might not have the same issues, but sound similiar. if u figure it out lemme know. may or may not be a major issue

Have you done the TB bypass mod (i assume you have as far into your modding as you are)? If you have, often times, the IACV never warms up and can mess with your idle.

No, I havent done the throttle body bypass mod.

I am downloading the manual as I type right now.

I guess testing the MAF sensor is next.

I do think its a big deal though. Ideling at close to 2000 rpm while sitting still is not good for the milage, and it makes it hard to order a coffee at the drive through. lol

My tuner guy said a good way to possibly get rid of that is to run a hose from one coolant nipple on the throttle body to the other and fill that little bit of the throttle body that houses the IACV with water and he said it MIGHT get rid of that. Or at least make it better.

Looks like your MAF is toast man. Check car-part.com for some really good prices.

So these codes refer to the MAF eh?

Anyone have a good used one for sale?
