Question upgrades

For anyone who has purchased a throttle body from RRM, is it worth the money if you have an intake. Im just looking for things that will help me not get beat by escorts. What do you think would help more, Throttle body, or an exhaust? If the throttle bottle helps noticabley ill eventually get both. And a question for everyone that has upgraded something, what has been the best upgrade for performance you have done? and please dont say turbo because that makes me depressed just knowing i cant afford one. thanks

TB hands down. Exhaust will do next do nothing as far as performance gains. The TB will especially be more effective in combination with other breathing mods i.e. an intake. I installed mine (TB and intake) at the same time so it's hard for me to give any measure of a difference in power, but you should feel a bit of a difference.

EDIT: And this should really be in another forum. Movin'.

Another broad question about upgrades...may merge with the other one...

Useful for avoiding the forced induction route

i forgot who it was but someone said they upgraded their MAS (i have no idea what that stands for, but its basically the sensor on your intake) to the MAS from the 4g63 engine (which is bigger, allowing more air flow) so i would think that because the intake is before the MAS and the throttle body is after the MAS, that you would have a bottle neck at the MAS thus defeating the purpose for you new TB. correct me if im wrong, but it sounds right.

It was bahamut's nicely done Mirage... and MAS is short for Mass Air Sensor...pretty much just counts incoming air so the ECU (engine control unit) can know how much air it'll have to work with for the combustion process.

Sorry for not using the 2g 4g63T MAS, our wire harness can only be plug & play from the NA MAS out of the 3g Eclipse 4g64 or 97-98 3000SL . . . many more, just search for the model #.

http://www.lancerforums.com/forums/s...&pagenumber=31

The links shows the difference between the 4g64/6g72 MAS and the factory MAS for the 4g93/94. The pin connectors are the same between the 2 MAS to your wire harness.

http://dreamwater.com/mirage1/tuning5.html

This link shows you, the owner of our site's MAS. The 97 and under 4g93 uses this MAS which has wider connecting pins. He has some problem using the 2g eclipse 4g63T MAS, because he doesn't have an AFC (big factor in tuning). This should be also similar MAS for the 1g eclipse 4g63T and the 3g mirage/US spec cyborg HB w/ the 4g61T.

If you inisist on the 2g 4g63T MAS, you'll need to splice your factory wire harness w/ and 2g plug. Disclaimer: I may be wrong on the 1g eclipse MAS since I have not really checked them out throughly.

Either or upgrade, your car will run lean; thus, an AFC is needed to correct it w/ more fuel . I've already tried the 4g64 MAS 8 months ago w/o the AFC with uncontrollable TQ in 1st gear and wanting to pull my car beyond 6700 (still strong too). Lean condition tends to do that before CE light warned me of impending meltdown at the 40 mile marker.

Sorry about the pics not being clear . . . it was at night over the house of a DSM'er and using his digi camera which also took the pic of my engine before the recent mods.

Here's the 2g MAS comparing them to the 97 and below mirages w/ the 1.8L (from the above mentioned link).

Pin connectors are wider than the factory harness for the +98 1.8L and the 2.0 Lancer.
