cruise control?

i just bought this car a week ago. its a 2002 lancer ls and for some reason the cruise control dont work. the light comes on the dash but it dont acctivate. any help would be great, i could probably figure it out but i cant find a service manual cheaper than $200. thanx.

I'd start by looking at you throttle body.
It has a "hook" of sorts that grabs a rod to engage your cruise.
You can see pics of what I'm talking about here:

The second pic is part of your cruise system.

Make sure all that looks intact and check your fuses too.
