what kind of intake should i buy?

hey guys, just wanted some input on an intake? should i just go with a K/N? if i spend 200 on a decent one, am i really only looking at a small increase in HP? im not sure if that is worth it.

No short ram intake is going to give you much of anything regardless of how much you spend. It's basically just a noise maker. Cold Air will give you a small HP increase, but will also cost more than a short ram.

So in terms of performance/cost, neither are really worth it in my opinion. Your best bet is to buy a short ram to give your engine some growl and make it sound faster than it actually is.

Thats not true, with a cold air or short ram, you gain a few hp and tq because your opening more airflow to the engine. You also gain a few mpg better..and it sets you up for a tune. I d go with aem induction box because it looks stock and you get better gains from it. In the car parts realm, what you pay for is what you get. I myself would never install a k & n even if i was handed a brand new one. Alittle background to k&n, their old intakes exploded, if you dont believe me youtube it... i believe its the typhlon series.

Agreed with Panis and erikerwin. Intakes don't really do anything significant. Even the 8+hp claims that some companies are making are really overshooting it. I would save the money and do something else with the car. Even so, with only 8 hp, you're not going to feel it, and the gains in mpg won't really be noticeable either. You're pretty much spending the $200 to literally say that you have "so and so intake" in your car.

The stock airbox is a well-sorted design. It already draws cold air from the front of the car. A K&N drop-in filter is all you will need. A ram intake or cold air is a waste of money for the slight (if any) gains you will see. To put it in perspective, the gain you get for driving your car at night when the air is colder will be more than the gain you get from putting in a cold air intake.

I m running the works performance drop in filter and its pretty good. I noticed big differences when I get hard on the throttle. Its about $150 for it though but lasts 2+ years depending on the air quality.

Im trying to figure the same thing out myself. I was thinking about going with AEM, but i wanted to do a drop in and couldn't find one
Let me know what you do.
Its either I buy a intake system, or I buy a Greedy exhaust which is around the same price.

thanks for all the replies... yeah i was thinking of spending the money on a drop because spending 200 dollars for small gains on hp doesnt seem worth it, but i thought id ask. haha plus my car is only the DE model. I have my GSXR 600 for speed, i installed an accelator kit on it so it gives me all the kick i need to burn people on the line. haha.

my girlfriends dad is a car junkie and told me the K/N filters he drops into his cars run around $50 bucks. went to autozone.com and saw some drop ins were as much as $200. what model K/N are you using and how much it did it cost you?

i just dropped in a K&N i got from ebay ... it was just under $40. i'm not a believer of intakes when we are at this level of power .... The stock design is good enough.

I put my money towards a grill and vinyl kit for the nose. i believe that kit will add just as much power as an aftermarket intake.
