Test Pipe

My engine is completely stock. I plan on putting on RRM header, Magnaflow exhaust and Short Ram Intake. With the RRM test pipe, will I still need a hi-flow cat, or does the test pipe get rid of both cats?? What is the best setup?? N/A.

Sorry for the somewhat amatuer question.

Thanks

Peace.

The test pipe replaces the 2nd cat. The header replaces the first cat, I believe. You won't need the hi-flow cat because the test pipe is the same thing, but better.

Depends upon your definition of better. Personally I prefer spewing less fuel and having the slightest possible chance of possing a visial inspection (though I'd probably still fail emissions for other reasons).

Personally I don't understand why people are so thrilled about test pipes when they tend to barely outperform high-flow cats while polluting and stinking a lot more.

You will have no catalytic converters with the setup you described.

please leave one cat on your car. i agree with hobie that the test pipe doesn't flow much better than a high flow cat and you'll save many australians from being sunburnt if you leave at least one cat on your car.

this is a high flow cat from land speed racing, which IMO, distribute some very nice products. I found a cat for 2G eclipses, but I'm in a hurry and couldn't find anything for Lancers or other newer Mitsus. Give them a call and see if they can't help you. I know that they can usually take a car and find a close opproximation for new cats. I would use a sentra se-r cat for my 240SX for example

i think one of the reasons is that it's so cheap.

For a good high-flow cat, hit up Buschur Racing and get their 2.5" one that's on sale for $115.

Yeah, I guess I just meant better in terms of price and air flow, not so much actual automotive performance or legality.

Yeah, but it could cost you more in the long run. *cries a single tear as garbage is thrown out the window of a passing car*

Meditate on that.

Of course these are just my personal feelings.

Well all high flow cats are technically illegal since it's a federal crime to tamper with a functional device or system that is designed to reduce harmful vehicle emissions.

On an NA setup most people find that the stock cat gives better "butt dyno" results than any test pipe. I'll be doing some actual testing here in the next few months when I get my hands on the auterra virtual dyno for Palm OS (as sold by an EvoM vendor). Look for results in "building the best exhaust"

test pipes are only usefull for turbo cars anyways. turbos like as much of a free flowing exhaust as possible, but it's not as much of a factor in NA setups
