Please help, turbo compatibility.

Hello everyone, I Have a 2003 Lancer oz Rally. My biggest priority is that my engine runs well... after that, my second biggest is that my car is fast. I want a turbo in my car, but I still want the engine to run well and for the car to have noooo problems with it....

So I am going to get my engine rebuilt, get new stronger internals, a new racing clutch, etc.

After all of this someone at work told me that my engine probably still wont be able to handle a turbo with 15 pounds of boost which is what I want at least... He said that my car would begin to have a bunch of problems...

now my question is.... Will my car have problems still constantly if I make my engine strong and stuff after putting a turbo in it and stuff....

PLEASE answer, or even message me and I will text you my phone number because I want more of an instant messaage type deal on this subject instead of forum talking.... if you are willling to help me I will love you THANKS

We have a lancer on here that made it to 17 psi on stock internals. Im sure you wont have too many issues with 15 on built internals. although your co-workers is right. It will more than likely cause some unforseen issues and some issues that wont normally happen to a n/a lancer vs turbo lancer.

Start here first.

top of the page has stickies. All those have everything you need to know. There are also lancers up here that have documented what all they did in order to go turbo and everything after wards and in between.

well lets see the following

depeding on what you want to do

if your buidling a motor for N/A puposes I would go with a stock compression or a 10:5:1 compression so you don't have issues with running.

if your going turbo I would run a 9:5:1 setup or go with stock evo 8 compression at 8:8:1 compression so you can run more boost.

pretty much read forums and decided what you want to accomplish. Im planning on getting an evo this week but depending on what me and the dealer discuss will depend if I get it.

My goal was to build a 500 hp daily lancer es and I know what I need there is just too many complications here becuase the limited parts we have. but im running 17 pounds on a stock motor. But you will read alot of this ITS ALL IN YOUR TUNE!!! im not sure what the max is but I would love to find out.

the only issue I see with running high boost is head issues, and fuel becuase I had a hard time installing the 255 in my car and it still didnt fit

i ran 15 constantly for a while until i wanted more and completely upgraded cars......(boost is very addicting...i said i would keep my wrx stock...ya now im tuned and pushing 25psi and have well over 300 awd hp to the wheels and still looking for a bit more, o btw ive had the car a little over a year now...)

on stock internals the car will handle 10 fine, but its all in the tune.

as for reliability...you have an 03, so its already 8 years old....and depending on your mileage, timing belt and water pump are due for a change, alternator (possibly, i have an 03 and mine went out last year). i had a transmission grenade on me, replaced the release fork in the transmission, both cv axles, wheel bearings, tie rods, the list continues....

and also remember the car was meant for about 120hp from the factory, now push that to 15psi and add another 100 or so horsepower.....see above statement.....

i was one of the few who really started to push it to the limits on stock internals at 15psi, but i had also spent many hours in tuning the car and ecu swapping and such, until we later found out that we can run evo roms on the lancer ecu's

research, research, and for a change of pace research more. THEN think about what your doing
