engine swap questions

Hey guys i'm not sure if this is the right forum, if not please move. I have the 2.0 06 lancer right now with 100k. I wanted to get a second engine before this one gets too old and dies out and build from the ground up with RRM parts to be ready to drop as soon as it does. My question is which engine (2.0 or 2.4) has more potential with fully built parts, and would i be better off going for a built motor or a motor built for turbo, as far as torque/hp and reliability goes(this is also my daily driver). Thanks for the help EVOM

If I had the ability to go back and start again, I'd do a 4G93E DOHC headswap and go turbo... But I did an all motor 4G93E headswap and it's proven to cost an arm and a leg for reliable performance. In any case, the 2.4L DOHC swap from a Ralliart would have more potential; However, there aren't as many parts to support that build like there is for the 2.0L 4G94 thats in our cars. In the end, all that matters is how much your willing to spend to build your motor. What's your budget looking like?

Im looking to go for what would be cheaper in the long run i.e lasting reliability while still having a fast engine.

If i were to swap for turbo build, it would be a long while before i actually get money together for a turbo though. So would the turbo build be a better option with that in mind in terms of reliability?

In that case, I'd stick with going turbo on a rebuilt 2.0L. Doing a swap can be costly and at least for the 4G94, there parts are pretty available and there's pretty good support for it.

Thanks man. Also would it be a bad idea to start getting parts put onto the engine now(throttle body, Ram Air,etc.) and swap them over to the new engine when i get a swap. Im going to be getting xmas money that will only be enough for one or 2 parts.

Just to clarify I should go with the 2.0 4G94 built with ideal turbo ratios?

In my opinion, a turbo'd 2.0L 4G94 would be more cost efficient and give more bang for the buck, while providing reliability in a sense that parts a plentiful and there is lots of support for the turbo lancer community.

As for parts you're gonna get for now, I'd hold off on things like a Ram air intake and header or an exhaust for now. You'll be swapping those out to support your turbo mods. an Intake manifolds or Throttle body would be good mods since it'll improve Naturally aspirated or Turbo'd performance. If you wanna get an intake for now, just don't blow a lot of cash for something you'll have to take out in order to install the piping for the turbo.
