replace 4B11 into 4B12 or not?
replace 4B11 into 4B12 or not?
Hi
im new lancer owner..
i got a 2010 gt . which im sure is 4B11 (from VIN) anyway.. a friend of mine.. accept to swab it with his 4B12..
he has 09 GTS CVT with 14000 miles on it
i have 10 GT CVT with 8000 km on it
he say that my engine is better.. i always wanted 2.4L..
so what can i do to ckeck his engine?
should I swab?
is it really necessaey to reprogram ECU ?
he thinks all we should is replace engine and not pistons, etc...
the gt i got has all gts features like 6cd changer, sunroof and fast key...
there isnt turbo kits where i live... so its not an option...
btw, i got 9.5 sec in 0-100 km.. isnt that same as 2.4?
he says mine is 2.4 but again vin says 2.0.. is there a way to confirm its 2.0 or 2.4 ? thanks

VINs don't lie. If the 8th character is a U, you have a 2.0L. If it's a W, you have a 2.4L.
If you do have a 2.0L, and want a 2.4L.. I wouldn't go to the trouble to swap. Someone here has successfully done that swap, but it seems like more trouble than it's worth. You'd have to swap the entire motor, and swap ECUs I believe. The 2.4l and 2.0l should be tuned differently. It would require a lot of work. Do you really want to go through all that for .4 extra liters, good for ~30hp? Neither are that much better for modding. (Though I think there's more support behind the 2.4l) Good luck in whatever you decide.

The basic settlement for this debate is a cash and time factor, if you've got the money and the time (and of course the patience) to do the swap, to each his own, if you don't have the funds for the swap and time for it to be in a shop, it's generally not worth it. Then again I have a 2.4 so I dont really know how badly a 4b11 would want this.
General truths about the swap:
+More power
-less gas mileage
-swap is a headache

Please forgive a newB question but...
Is not the 4B12 a bored/stroked 4B11? What keeps one from using the 4B12 crank in the 4B11 and getting some displacment and compression bump?
HHmm? (old/old skool hot roddin' FTW!
)

That is correct, however u will need the crank, pistons and conrods from the 4b12 and the cylinder will have to be drilled by 2mm to make room for the slight larger diameter pistons.
