Is it worth it?
Is it worth it?
I had my brakes done earlier, I know the guy through a friend and he gave me a good deal, fixed up my rotors and put on my new pads for $50 bucks. He mentioned if I should get an intake put in but just for fun basically.
I'm thinking SRI since it would be easier for me to maintain. Is it worth it? Or just a waste of $300 bucks? Will the engine get dirtier? Void my warranty? I have 47k miles on the car and the warranty stops at 60k I believe.

I am not positive on any real performance gains but I love my K&N SRI. When I get to 3k RPMs it gives off a good, deep sound. Makes the car sound a lot badder than it actually is. Nothing will void the warranty unless it is the reason/cause of the malfunction.
Needless to say, if your transmission blows up they would have to prove the SRI caused that.

I'm more worried about any negatives of putting in such intake. For example, will I require more frequent oil changes? I remember on my 98 3000GT I had an injen SRI and the car would randomly stall. I just don't want any weird MAF sensor issues.
I am also going for the heavier sound too. I think the car is quick enough, its a 5 speed and I know how to drive it well.
As long as you have it properly installed and are using a good filter I really can't see you having an issue. Ive been running an Injen SRI for well over a year now and it doesn't have heat/splash shield and I'm in fairly dusty and rainy conditions often and have had no issues, others do have them if it's still a concern for you.
As for if its worth it, ive seen people spend 300 bucks on things like jeans they wear a few times a year, so for me spending 300 on an item ill use on a daily basis for years to personalize it a little more for myself was totally worth it.

Yeah I have just read about several discussions where people do say it is useless and waste of money and that all it does it still suck in hot air, make your engine dirty. But like you mentioned, each person enjoys different things.
I'm still on the fence about it actually and just doing some more research.

As for the intake, many users have reported CILs after intake installation, but this has been very sporadic and could be a result of poor installation. In terms of your warranty, yes, intake will void the warranty.
IMO, I wouldn't mod the car until your warranty is up.
Great deal on the brakes!

Yeah I believe that the warranty will be over at 60k. I'm at 47k right now. I would hope that adding an intake would not mess with the 100k power train warranty although the dealership could say that.

yea, i didnt put a single mod on my car until i hit my warranty either, but i couldn't wait til the powertrain warranty was up, its too awesome, id be old and grey before i put a single mod on! lol
Yeah I know what you mean. I skimped on the intake. Didn't feel the need to spend 300 bucks for an intake while I am still within the warranty period.
For my go fast feeling I got a 2005 SV650S instead

not to modify our cars for 10 years?? i cant last that long lol but i gues if anybody is really worried about the voided warranty, carry your stock intake in the trunk with a couple of tools incase something happens LOL
