HORSEPOWER increase
intake, axleback or catback exhaust, headers... throttle body. simple basic bolt ons. Check out www.roadracemotorsports.com they have like everything from intakes to turbo kits for our cars for a great price.
Breakdown:
Basics -
Intake; short ram - $150; Car will gain mid- to top-end power, but feel somewhat sluggish in low rpms.
Exhaust; axleback - $270, catback - $500, test pipe - $70; allows exhaust gasses to exit engine more efficiently. Catback gives top-end power, axleback give low-end power. Test pipe removes restrictive catalytic converter (but ruins emissions on the car if you need to have that tested).
More power -
Header - $370; allows better removal of exhaust gasses, great increase in power. Also removes first cat converter, which will cause car to fail emissions and also get false "Service Engine Soon" lights.
Ported intake manifold - $350; allows air to enter engine better, more power. Adds low-end power.
Bored throttle body - $290; same as previous.
All items are from RRM (cuz RRM has everything)

first of all you want torque more than you want horespower.
Second this has been covered in every which direction on the forum, so read around.
Third depends on what you want to do, what you know, and what you got to spend.
So provide more info, or just simply read around since all the info is already out there.
Later.

If you really want cheap "horsepower" then remove any unnecessary weight - your interior, your passenger seat, your passenger etc etc, you can create a grounding kit, remove the resonator / sound dampener on the intake, drill into the stock air box to creat more air passages, take out your AC and power steering, you can go cheap and create a "Home Depot" cold air intake, move the battery as afar away as you can from the snorkel that sucks up the cold air for the stock intake, you can gut your cat etc etc .... these are all free or super cheap mods. HP gains, minimal. Cost minimal.
There is one thing I have learnt as a modder / tuner and it is my mantra today.
If it is fast and good, it wont be cheap.

Thank goodness you put the "horsepower" part in quotes or I'd have to come after your ***
LOL. All of the things you listed are indeed the "little" mods that more or less don't do anything, but can in some ways increase your perfromance in one aspect or another.
good (and true!) mantra too

My words of advice for you - save up for i dunno how long it would take u since i dont know how much money you amke. But i would just save up and go turbo or supercharger. Sure there a few grand, but why spend 1gran on bolt ons and only gain like 20hp? might as well spend 3500$ and gain like 100HP

Andrew will be over 300 whp after he gets his internals in and his car back up and running.
Quite a few people are at 200 whp which is more than most give credit to.
Yes it takes money, but keep in mind these cars didn't cost that much to begin with.
2.0L's making 300 or more horsepower is pretty common. It just takes some time and money and as more people do it, the easier it becomes for the next guy.
haha im gonna go gut my resonator right now...
lol and i got my backseat taken out....and the door sills and lower pillar paneling.
gonna go gut my resonator and take off my 'lite glow' pedals cuz they are to big.
u want 'cheap' horsepwer..i think the most people get is the RRM Piggyback ECU, get as much WHP as u would with intake/exhaust(w/test pipe) or so it seeems...and for less than $500!
