Need help with my engine

Ok so I have a 2002 Lancer ES and the engine just cut off while driving up a hill. At first I thought it was the timing belt had snapped because while driving it was losing power going up hill and made a weird sound before it stopped. But I checked the timing belt and its totally fine. It moves when you try to start the engine but it just doesnt kick on. Ive checked the spark plugs theyre fine, the gas line is good too. I just cant figure out whats going on with it. Any ideas???

Ok. Back to basic.
Did it throw any code?
Are you certain you have fuel? Injectors firings?
Have sparks?
If they checked out then go over your timing belt.
If that checked out then check if you have compression in cyl.

What does it sound like when you try to start it? Did the engine temp rise when you were going up the hill?
