Confused about high flow cat
Ok some sense needs to be brought to me about this from what I know removing the cat is illegal. But it isn't illegal if the old cat malfunctions. Now here is what I am curious about. Wouldn't the high flow cat be illegal.... in the sense it doesn't really do anythingn but let straight air through. Which is good in performance but bad for nature. But **** nature it dies some day. Ok. Now first if lets say you get pulled over and you have the high flow cat what could a cop do. How would he know that wasn't the replacement for a broken old cat. What kind of evidence could you show to keep from a cop letting his ***** flare. Just curious about this. Also has anyone seen or felt anything good out of this high flow cat just curious. like improvements and what not.
It's "legal" to replace if the vehicle has 55,000 mi or over (I think) or the original one gets damaged. As for the cop thing, I guess you would just say it was damaged. I think they would be hard pressed to prove otherwise. Your word against his unless by law, you have to keep the damaged one, but I am not sure about that.
Hope this helps a little. I personally haven't used one so I can't speak for any gains or anything like that.

Test pipe. is going to give gains. They are minimal but it is like taking the banana out of your exhaust. High flow cat is going to give less gains like taking half of the banana out! Remember TEST PIPE IS FOR OFF HIGHWAY USE. WInk, Wink!

You could avoid this by slamming your ride... Seriously. Cops check your cat by knocking on it with a billy club, and if it's hollow, he'll hear it. Slam the car, and, how's he gonna check it, unless he does the whole "Mind if I check your car?" and you say "Yes." and then he impounds it.
I would think they would have to test the exhaust gases from the tailpipe. Not to sure if they make a portable emissions testing machine! But that would be my guess! They stopped doing emissions testing in my area about 2 years ago!

Think about it, if your exhaust is not ricy/buzzy sounding they will not be attracted to checking exhaust. I got pulled over, cop looked at everything but my exhuast is quiet enough that he actually thought it was not modified. RRM exhaust is deep sounding and not ricey. Because of that they never thought to check the cat.
I'm serious.. I love how cops are... that's their little loophole. They go, "do you mind", and if you say "no", it's "step out of the car, sir." Then, they get to do an "inventory" of the vehicle's contents, modifications.. in other words, a search. The illusion of choice... gotta love it.
And, that's really how cops check that, by the way. I'm sure if it was impounded, it would get put in the air.
