So I have a 2009 lancer gts and my crank bearings spun out on me last week, started out as a slight knock at around 3000 rpm and within 5 miles engine with to complete ****.... so I'm wanting to put a "newer" engine in instead of rebuilding this one. I did find two engines close to my area, a 2015' 4b12 with 15k miles on it and a 2016' 4b12 with 16k miles on it but I had someone tell me that any 2011 and newer 4b12 with not work as a direct replacement for my ride??? Any insight here from you pro's. Is that just completed bull or actually something legit. Thanks for any input.

Ok,so after not hearing any feedback from you guys.... I bought a 4b12 out of a 2015 Lancer Se with 15k on it for $600. I'm picking it up on Tuesday this next week. I'll post the results if it's a successful engine replacement or not.
This worked out perfect. I did need to swap over a few external items but the actual engine block/head are the same. I ended up selling my car a few years back now. Good luck!
You don't know how many hours I've spent searching the internet, and how many mechanics at dealerships have gave me bull**** answers when I figured it would work the whole time.
The following evening I buttoned everything up, gave her a bath, and took the first test drive. I remember the engine/trans ran so smooth. 16k on the new engine plus a new clutch for the 5mt made it drive like new. The car itself had around 160k on it. The entire job cost me around $1150 for all the parts "engine, clutch, fluids, and random bits" and a weekend with a about 2 hrs. of help from a buddy.
