Catalytic Converter Problems

I had just bought a test pipe from someone on this site and went to install it the other day. I went out and bought the tools needed (a 1/2" dirve ratchet and O2 sensor remover, and even a 22mm wrench). And when I tried to remove the sensor it won't budge an inch. Does anybody have any suggestions.

I tried asking local muffler shops to put it in for me but they were too worried about fines (so I figured).

wd-40 could work, l3t it sit on there for a bit. or .. bang the cat with a bar or wrench or hammer a few times to break the threads loose. i had to do that when i removed my TP and re-installed the cat. i just banged on it some and it came right out.

Heat it ut, then put some sort of extension(PVC pipe) on your ratchet. That should take it off.

Thanx for the suggestions. Got it off letting WD-40 set for a couple of hours.

did you try banging on the cat/bolts firmly with a hammer or an end wrench? sometimes that can break the "Seal" in the threads and can help.

u need more torque probably... try using a hydrolic jack and set up to where where there is a socket wrench on the bolt and a pipe underneath where its touching the jack... n all you do is jack it up... n after you jack it up... it should be loose... u need more torque or armstrength

I had the same problem with mine when I first got it. The heat from the exhaust really makes it a pain in the a$$ to install the test pipe if you don't put your car on a lift and get some torque behind your wrench. Spray some more PB Blaster on the bolts, let it sit a while and then give it another try. They'll come off.

Don't make the same mistake I did though...make sure you replace the old nuts and bolts with new stainless ones.

I couldnt get mine off. We had to drop the whole cat out by disconecting the O2 sensor from the inside of the car (passenger side foot well). It will pop out then you can remove the whole cat and work on it not under the car.

We used and air gun with an o2 sensor puller and took about 5 minutes of going at it.
