Need some cam help here

I was considering getting a stage 2 cam next week - i was wondering EXACTLY what else i needed in order to properly run the cam. I am working on getting my car to run quickly N/A and i want it to run properly. I have heard i need an AFC and maybe a FPR. Is that right ??? i may just go stage 1 if this is too much trouble <pouts> i want good power and i think this cam will do just fine for me. I am already in the market for the RRM throttle body and intake and want to get some more juice for my ride.

I would really like to hear some HP numbers or some time slips from anyone who has installed a cam. I am trying to get the specs of the cam but i have not heard anything back from RPW yet. I love these forums and i am thinking of all the stuff i can do. I appreciate any and all help offered

THose stage 2 cams are best maximised if you have other NA supporting mods like headers, intake and exhaust, at the very least, and much better with a bigger TB, FPR, MAS upgrade etc. And yea, you will need stronger valve springs for stage 2 and higher cams.

Ya, like AirQuez and Lancerozr said, you will most likely need stronger valve springs for the stage two cams.

People like getting the AFC for their car when they have cams because then you can fine tune the fule map for the most effective air:fuel ratio.

I would advise you not to get the stage two cams if you your Lancer is your daily driver. The performance cams cause the car to have a rough idle. The AFC helps this a little by adjusting the air fule ratio properly, but it will still be rough.

RPW has been doing a lot of research into the idling issues with camshafts and other mods on the mitusbishi lancer vheicles and we have found that use of a Greddy E-manage with the latest new firmware upgrade radically smooths out the idling and driveability of the vehicle as it has been tailored especially to compensate for the fluctuations in the MAF sensor voltage output.

This means that you can do much more accurate tuning and getr a more consistant result.

We have redone three cars with this firmware upgrade now one a very heavily modified 1.8 lancer with N/a mods which is producing 137hp at the front wheels and they have all responded extremely well to the firmware upgrade. Idling has been the greatest area we have smoothed out so my recomendation is don't go apexi but stick with the greddy as it is providing a much better platform to work with.

This particulr one is only running the stage 1 camshaft but i have other people running stage 2 without idling issues.

Remember that for the 2.0 vehicles teh stage 2 profile is different to a stage 2 on a 1.8 engien due to the way the two cars are affected being the 2.0 is more suspectable to idlign problems.
