is switching the mivtec into the 03 lancer worth the time and problems

hey i have got everything done to my 03 oz lancer except turbo and nos and internals. im impressed but not happy is switching to the mivtec worth the time and money. and what all is needed to change it over and a ballpark figure about doing it. also if i do stay with the 2.0 sohc what would be the difference in power after each engine is maxed out i really would like to hear some real facts from RRM cuz thats where almost all of my parts are from oh and keep it up guys your great.

Have you tried a Cam upgrade?

I am nearly finished with all the I/H/E mods too but that only leaves moving to internal parts if you are staying NA.

WADAD

I see you haven't so basically I am asking if you have any plans to do so or is it you want more power without ever opening the engine as your goal?

well i want to move in to the internals in fact i have a 20 sohc with 1k miles that i was goin to complety redo with forged pistons rods cam and all the other goodys but i dont want to waist my time and money if i can get so much more power out of a mivec instead

so i want to know a educated opinion what would be best to finish building the 20 sohc or restart with the mivec thats all i know it would be cheaper to stay with the 2.0 sohc but what will make more power in the long run and if its a considerable difference with the mivec then i will just sell all my stuff i have and redo the mivec

I argue that the mivec will make more power in the long run since it's bigger, plain and simple. It makes more power stock and it will respond better to mods.

Yawn.... but what about your ECU? It wouldn't have a damned clue what to do with that other cam. Then there are issues of belts and wires. Will the header mount up to the exhaust without a lot of custom work? And you'll want that intake mani as long as you're buying parts.

It sounds like our original poster is looking for a relatively "easy" drop in (ala your Civic swaps). If you want to spend time and money and not break a lot of new groud I'd recommend going with known quantities (RPW, RMR, Buschur), build your engine, drop in a turbo and work the fuel management. read EVERYTHING Boe has written on the topic of FI Lancers (and then follow the threads of the others that have followed him).

Good luck

if you are looking for a swap...the 4g69 will fit, with some fabrication, boe has found the motor for about 700, the ecu and wiring for 400 so 1100 hundred for just about all you'd need for the engine along with the swap you will need axels( i believe) a custom exhaust mani...(i am thinking that you can get away with just doing the custom DP...so far your looking at about 1500+ not installed....so you might have a better bet to go turbo...

I don't know where you should go next. We don't really know what you've done so far- you say "everything but NOS, turbo, internals" so it sounds like all you have is I/H/E and that's tantamount to nothing. What are your power/timeslip goals? We don't know what you're using the car for? Drag racing? Road courses? AutoCross? Driving fast and living carelessly? Hmm.... perhaps then we shouldn't even be having this conversation....

In any event, TB and intake mani would be MY next projects. Then the turbo (if you're going that route) and fuel management system.... but then I'd also want to do pistons/rods, cams, head studs, pulleys..... and all of that will change the way the RRM piggyback will work (I'll just assume you're going to go with RRM because everybody else has) so you'll have to work with those guys to get them to re-map it for you so you can take advantage of the mods. And then you'll want to control it- so LSD, WAY better tires, spring and suspension upgrades... and you want to be safe at those speeds- gut the interior, roll cage, halon fire supression system....

Oh and as far as anyone on this board has seen, NOS will only serve to give you an opportunity to see the inside of your engine as you lay it on a blanket. Even 25 shots have blown these little motors. I'd save that for.... dead last? Never?

Seriously- read some. This whole Engine Tech forum is here for a reason.

no i wasnt planning on goin to a nos system until i complety redo the internals and as far as mods go i have rrm intake manifold and throttle body rrm header injin cold air intake greddy evo cat back exhaust 17' adr racing rims with 40 series racing tires from falcon apexi air fuel management system. and i like to do road corces and also drag and i like the suspension that i have now its got springs from somewhere i cant think of the name but their high quality and i know i need bigger stabelizer bars but the suspension and everything else i know about i just wanted some opinions on the power making of the car and the way it sounds i need to stay with what i got and im goin to get the piggy back unit but i was gonna wait till i find out what i was gonna do first but other than the piggy back im at a wall its either turbo or internals and you can do nos on these engines if you get forged pistons and better internals overall so my question is where do i go from here i would think internals but i havent delt with mitsubishi very much thats why im askin for rrm's or anyone with knowlege of this subjects opinion on where to go from here in the engine. and as far as the drive fast live careless its my teams moto not something to live by alone but who here dont play with there ride alittle if we didnt why would we spend so much money to make them faster lol anyway hope that answers your question and no hopefully you can answer mine
