That's a concern of mine also. I've seen the topic discussed before, but I don't think any solution has been given. I did a search and Pimpson mentioned that the K&N filter uses an oil-based repellant, so that eases my mind a little bit.

Pretty much anything that isn't a foam filter uses and oil based filtration screen combined with paper or gauze. This issue is really blown out of proportion. Drive with enough care and it's a non-issue even with a true CAI. As for a vent, a fine metallic mesh or like in case of the Road Race duct, simply place in front of filter. Water wouldn't get on the filter period.

yea a duct or some kinda screen would help out especially with the people in the northern states. snow is a big issue. with snow hydrolock isn't an issue but the snow caking over the filter and causing the enging to suffocate. even on a short ram. i've seen that in person, even without the scoop...

i've also seen hydrolock with a short ram setup even without a scoop in the hood. yea its rare but it can happen. seen it more on the cold air. o yea the aem bypass valve doesn't work on the injen...

but yea having the duct lead to the sides is best.having it lead to the front is good too but you might run into problems if the filter is open at the front too. if you really have some time, determine your car's sweet spot. each car has a different sweet spot for sucking in air. its the part that gets dirtiest the most and have the air diverted there if possible.

1 more thing, oil never mixes with water
