do the digital odometers on 02/03 lancer o.z reset to..

do the digital odometers on 02/03 lancer o.z reset to the current milage of the vehicle when they are replaced?
i just bought a new cluster, and i am wondering if the milage of the new cluster will remain the same when i hook it up, or will it recent to my vehicle's current odometer reading.
thanks in advance

It will stay at whatever mileage was on it, when it was last unplugged. If it is brand new, like from the factory, it will read 0, but if it was pulled from another car, it will have that car's mileage on it.

oh word?!
that's awesome man, so i guess the odometer reading is saved on an EPROM kinda memory on board (of the odometer) not on the engine's ECU?

Whatever mileage is on the cluster will be the mileage that comes up, no matter what car it gets up it. And yeah, it's not stored on the ecu which seemed odd to me.

if it's stored in an eprom memory on the odometer's circuit board then resetting it to 0 would be as easy as waving a UV light by it.

eproms are pretty hard to reset man, even if it's only on the cluster. they work with dipole technology.

not without taking it to a dealer there isn't. Best thing to do is buy one that is around the mileage of your car.

yeaa i bought one off a wrecked evo
and my mileage was at the 48,000

and when i got the new cluster that one ended up having 30,000
so i kinda won on that one

but it wont reset unles you get it professionally done
so best bet is to find one close to milage
