Off-road lancer
Off-road lancer
Ok, I'm not big into cars or anything, but I would like to change up my car someday. One idea I had was to be able to hit bumps and stuff (like speed bumps) at higher speeds without damaging anything. One friend who's into cars says I would have to raise the car and change the suspension or something to extend the tires outwards to compensate for the raising, and that I would need to get thicker tires. Would this affect my speed overall?
I guess you could try to do a custom setup for the lancer and give it a lift, skid pan, and wider tires but why not get a truck if that's what you want? The lancer wasn't made to do what your talking about and if you did do this, to answer your question, yes it would affect your speeed and drivablility dramatically. Esp with bigger/wider tires and the car would prob drive like $hit. But if that's what you want to do go for it. Just let us know how it turns out. Got to give props to the people who think outside the box.

well, I like cars cause of the speed heh, I dunno..but you know, like baja buggies, how they can jet through dunes and stuff with those tires bouncin, I want somethin like that. Something that can absorb shock real well, I think even with a truck driving over a speed bump fast you could mess up something eventually if it's not tuned right...but then again what do I know about cars, maybe I play too many games ;p
Yeah for the love of god don't turn your lancer into an off roader. If you want to do that either buy a truck and raise it and put mud boggers on it or get one of those kits that is basically a frame minus an engine and put like an old VW bug engine into it. A friend has one of those and its wicked. He drives it around his ranch chasing cows and such.

RMR's Group 2 rally Lancer did very well actually. It was the top of its class for a while if I remember correctly. They basically replaced the entire suspension and rebuilt it with an Evo VI's (if I remember correctly), but this kind of work is probably well beyond the scope of your abilities if you're asking the question to begin with. I'd recommend keeping the Lancer on the road, but if you're intent on trying to off-road with it expect to pay a pretty penny to get it "off-road worthy" so to speak.

you ****in crazy but i cant wait to see how this will turn out if you try it. I was kinda thinkin the same thing bout if your askin the question then your probably not prepared to do the mods required. but as they say everyones got their price just pay someone to do it for ya if you got the cash that is. good luck
Lancer = daily driver
Rail buggy = off-roadin'-cow-chasin'-dune-jumpin'-s.o.b.!
You can pick up a vw powered rail buggy (around here anyway) for $1500 - $3000 depending on how bad-a$$ you want it to be...of course you can spend much more than that for one, I'm just giving a reasonable average entry price. You would spend MUCH more than that getting a Lancer off-road worthy.
