Why so slow?

My friend has same es i have cept i have 02 and he has 03, we both have intakes (same ebay), but i have headers and cat pipe to boot. Plus the homemade ground wires. Well just a few ago we raced and i took off a tad slower than him (i hesitate for a split second) and that was about the only gain he held on me the whole time. He is running STOCK everything except the intake. Why did he beat me? I dont expect to smoke him but i mean i did expect to get him by a little. But another thing is i just took off my chrome intake pipe and put my stock rubber hose back on with the MAS adapter and filter so that it sits behind the battery rather than right beside it, because i thought it would help the air stay cooler. I was think he might take me in low but i figured around 3rd i would pull ahead. Any reason for my car being slower? Thanks for input

the headers and cat delete cause you to lose a bit in low end power.
and the gains aren't huge in the high end, sure you have more horses in 3rd and higher, but is it enough to make you blow past him? negative.

uh...well right now ur buddy is making use of the torque on the Lancer. Cuz sounds like u guys were racing straightaway and whoever is ahead by 3rd gear is basically the winner. The torque on 1,2, gears and by 3rd will give us a chance on some cars since we're torquey compared to no-torque hondas. But after 3rd, it's downhill, hehe.

So u are losing torque with ur headers + test pipe...u gotta "stick the banana" back into it. Keep ur intake on but put ur cat back on the car, then take him. U need a restrictor to get the torque back .

Any way to rig up a restrictor plate for cat pipe? Ill prob just put cat back on but just curious. Maybe an over sized gasket? Thanks for the feedback though, i figured it was the cat. Im about to get a cat back exhaust (Magnaflow), will this add any backpressure? Reason being is i dont know if i still have bolts for cat......plus it was a ***** to get off =P

welp. there ya go.

I was going to say if he was man. and u were auto, theres ur answer. but since ur both auto...

First off leeme advise you to change the filter on your ebay intake, its a pos. get a K&N highflow cone filter, or something equivelent. Also get a heat sheat to go around it, since ur auto and u got sri, it will help alot.

Second u put a header on and a test pipe. You lost a good deal in low end even compared to his stock, so he got the jump on you with the low end and the gains just arent big enough for you to blow past him in 3rd and 4th. You probably pull on him a little bit in 3rd and 4th...but not enought to take him from a dig. from a roll you have the advantage.

I think u should have gone catback after intake, esp since ur an auto. And trust me on the intake filter, the ones ebay sends u are crapppppp they stop being effective after about 2 weeks. I bet u put the filter on ull do beter, and work on your reaction time. 3rd gear sucks for our autos so id say the first one to hit it is going to win. Loose the test pipe, if u want something get a highflow cat. Get the catback and it should open up your exhaust for u esp. since u got the header already.

You also said u hesitated, so that does alot when racing in auto's

Good luck with ur car!

Most people might say all filter are the same (ebay, K&N)... but IMO there wrong. I use to have a ebay HKS type filter on my old es and it sucked ***. I didnt hear it suck anything up and I didnt feel any power from it. I know the gains are minimal, but still i felt like i loss power, lol. The minute i put on an AEM (k&n fliter) on my SRI... it was LOUD, and i hear it suckin in air like a vaccum and i felt a difference after 3500 rpm's. So, def get a new filter and make sure you oil it.
