Evo Vs Oz
man i dont know where the hell i found that. but it was on some car site that was comparing them to like the mini type s and the civic's and ****. if i find it i will post it but i have been looking for it for an hour...fawk it.
The modern V6 'stang w/ auto is vulnerable. Somewhat fast in 1st, and 2nd is decent. 3rd just drops off in power.
The modern V6 'maro w/ auto is less vulnerable. 1st and 2nd gear is strong (your car will need to out TQ big time to even start to compete). In 3rd, it has enough power to hold others off and lugging down the track in a heavier weight trim.
This is not the trans-am ws6, 'maro ss, or 'stang GT. I've seen those cars with intake and exhaust blasting down the track all over the 14 sec range. Only a girl with a stock c5 vette ran 13.5 to .8 sec. All stick on a test and tune event.

Someone copied the stats, but I can never find the originator for the preformance test. It has been a 2 yr search w/o solid results.
In both cases, all the 1.8L guys acknowledge those times are too good to be true, unless a miracle worker.
Yes, we are lighter but do not enough power. Our stock powerband starts at 4000 rpm, peaks about 4400, and totally dies at 5500. There is absolutely no use going to redline at 6500 since the motor is suffocating from the factory airbox. Also, traction sucks on stock 14 inchers. That's why we believe those performance stats on us are too good to be true.
With I/H/E, we can bounce in the 16.5 to 16.8 sec with simple bolt ons. 16.8 stock on us is too incredible, but it's about right for SOHC running around 140's flywheel HP.
The modern auto 'maro uses the same v6 as the Grand Prix SE (detuned at 160 or 180) or GT (about 200 HP). Both tranny for SE or GT can hold its tremendious TQ.
Funny thing, I have seen a stock Grand Prix GT running 16.3 to 16.8 (depending on grip) while a stock modern Maxima V6 can run in the very low 16 secs. See, heavy cars with big HP/TQ . . . well, adj accordingly with smaller cars and lesser HP/TQ figures.

Thanks, Mr. Madden.
I agree the comparison is poor, but our current laws of forum physics seem to make all good threads turn to chit and all bad threads contain some useful info.
Do these reviewers or magazines expain how they get the mean or average 1/4mi, 0-60 or whatever times?

I purchased an OZ Lancer instead of waiting for an evo because:
A) I can't afford an evo (making payments on a '02 Ford Explorer and a '99 Silverado)
B) Filling up the gas tank is CHEAP!
C) Insurance is CHEAP!
D) More standard options than similar cars.
E) The car looks beautiful, and is uncommon, unlike my SUV and pickup.
F) I feel young driving it.
E) I got a great deal on the car.
F) I get to participate in a great forum like this!
You only live once, if you can afford an evolution, by all means, buy it! Or if you are like me, buy an OZ, look good, feel great, and drive it for all its worth!
Happy Holidays to all!

well a comparison isnt what i was looking for, more like my own personal rant. I dont belive that the two cars share anything but a name.

Ok, hold on, so your saying the only reason you bought an OZ instead of the Evo is because you didnt want to wait?? Where should I start.....
Im resisting a long reply and summing it up with this. If you bought an OZ with thoughts of a high performance car, then start a thread to complain that your car cant match the Evo, well then you do not deserve to own an Evo. A 30 second test drive of any OZ should have been enough to clue you in. Impatience? I would call it lack of knowledge.

wow isnt that a great big ASSumption. but not the case. i wanted a new car then found out the us lancer was here...my dealer didnt say squat about the evo. when i got my car i wasent looking for proformance = to a rx7 or a mclaren...**** off. i was looking for something that looked good and was sorta quick. i have a se-r and a 525 bmw. i dont need a blazing fast car. i know thats not what i was gonna get with a car like this and it wasent at all what i was looking for. call it whatever you want but if i knew before i pulled bown this info that a guy with a cartoon ren and stimpy pic would be talking about what i do and dont know i would not have started this thread. the only thing i was going to try to do, is show what the diffrent sites were saying about our cars. take a deep breath and relax...
