thats exactly the key though, "safer" not safe lol. I use my car as a daily driver, so really, I want performance, but I do not want to risk harming my engine, or the life of the engine. so I doubt I would do any nos no matter what. What would be nice though is the piece of mind that I would not be breaking any pencils =).

you are increasing the compression of your motor which will reduce the life of it and the strngth

Justin,

Dammit. Now I'm thinking that the pistons are going to sit around the house while I save up for rods too. *sigh*

Yeah, the Lancer is my DD too. I'd probably never get nitrous, but knowing I could is nice. Hell, it would probably be more effective on the '69 Camaro anyhow.

Mike - do I really want to tempt fate?

not as much as a turbo or nitrous would but when you increase the compression you are putting added wear and tear that isnt their fromt he factory

I disagree too. The block and the head is strong enough and with stronger pistons the engine should perform much much better than stock.

I disagree. There isn't more wear and tear. The pistons are still moving at 700 rpm when idling. Just because they're shaped differently, it shouldn't create more stress. Yes, a little bit more air and fuel are being compressed, but it's not going to be that different a situation over stock.

I don't think it would be added wear, because the engine isn't working any harder, granted there will be a bit more pressure, but its not like there is going to be boost and then no boost and sudden surges of pressure when the turbo or SC spools, it will allways be there, from idle all the way to WOT. and in anycase, the engine will be being worked less in theory, cause now it will produce more power at a lower RPM which means you can go faster at a slower engine speed which in turn is less wear on the engine.

This part isn't true. The same engine speed means the same crank speed, same flywheel, same everything else through the drivetrain until the wheels. This goes for any power upgrades - you will get to higher speeds faster because you have more power, but 4000rpms in 4th gear is the same speed in all 4G94 Lancers, regardless of mods, unless someone's got some things out there to change gear ratios in the differential or the transmission.

let me rephrase, it will take less effort to keep the car moving if it has more power.

you know when i analize the parts list for staying na... why not just fo turbo i mean sure runnin a hundred and eighty hp would be nice na. but what of runnin 220 turbo..plus id have a fat as intercooler to top it off. and if i did custom setup it would be pretty fast and cost effecient...i just need to find components to do it...plus then id have the ability to say hey i made my own turbo...i kno some guys at a mechanic shop ,,,this one guys who works there said hed do it privatly for 350! so maybe... just turbo is callin my name..... im scared... shut up turbo !

Hey, be my guest. Some of us decided not to go turbo. It's my decision, his decision, and your decision. To each their own.
