Piggyback Install ?

Do you pull the wires out of the ecu plug and weld it to the piggyback wire? Do you cut the wires and weld the piggyback wires a couple inches up from the plug so the wires still plug in? What does T-Into the wire do not sever it mean?

Don't take a welding torch to your ECU. Try a soldering iron. Don't pull the wire out, T into it means scrap the cover off the wire and solder the PB wire to the existing wire.

what's with all these threads about the piggy back install? I know that I'm new, but it seems like there's a lot:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ighlight=piggy
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ighlight=piggy
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ighlight=piggy
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ighlight=piggy
and most recently:

I'm not trying to be mean, just wondering if the install instructions are that unclear.......

Like I said, its nothing to do with the people posting. I am asking are the instructions clear or not. Just wondering, because it sounds like a great mod to do but wonder about the install

Well I found out the hard way that soldering is not the way to go with cars.... the only reason I say this is cause my dad knows a lot about cars and hes an electrician, and he told me with the cars soldering is not meant for a lot vibration and if you have problems its hard to redo... but we re did my lancer with the piggy back and use the clips they give you and crimp them good and hard and on the back where the wire sits use the solder to put down it gives the best connection as he explained to me the "cats ***". No problems so far and working great!!!

so it's not the instructions that are the problem? just the technique?

i T'd into the stock harness, soldered the pb ecu in, taped the connection, and tucked it neatly back up into the dash...my connectons are holding on there great...also another idea...if you are getting a loose connection, wait till the solder dries and then just melt another glob of solder over the previous one to make an extra stronghold for yourself...i can try and upload pics if anyone needs them but its a pretty self explanitory and makeshift way of doing it...

I think I'll go home and write up a how-to on soldering for you guys, doesn't sound like it's being done correctly from these posts
