Do our keys have a chip in them

Im thinking about getting remote start put on my car and was wondering if our keys have a chip in them. I have just a regular lancer es 04.

there will be no problem at all getting a remote start put on your lancer. if you could do a search next time u woudl have came upon a couple of post about remote starts being install, not only on an auto but manual as well (just dont leave ur car in gear lol...)

I think the EVOs have a chip in their keys - they're the only Lancers to have them though

don't all new cars have chips in them or something like that...cuz i tried making a duplicate at a key shop and the key wouldn't start the car..i could only open the doors with them...

It really wouldnt be that strange for our car to have a chip in the key. Most companies are moving that way, my wifes 2000 cougar had a chip and her 2004 xb has one and the xb was cheaper than my car. I thought there was some sort of circuit in the key for obvious reasons but I could be wrong.

I noticed that with the scions, toyotas, and even some hondas at the dealership I used to work at. The keys look normal but I guess they must have a chip. I'm not sure about the lancer.. maybe try getting the key remade from the original again. The ignition is more sensitive than the door locks.

i did get it made from the original...didn't work...also tried it with my tibby..will not start.....i think it does have a chip or sensor....
