Possible bad news on US Evo
What I'm saying is get a Mitsu rear LSD rather than a Cusco one. I was quite sure that Cusco made a straight swap replacement diff, but judging from your experience it doesn'tseem to be so...
Weird, I read in a japanese magazine that cusco make an AYC replacement, meaning it just changes the internals of the existing diff with no need to change anything outside. I've even seen pics of it. Is yours sold as the AYC-replacement??

You know what that sounds like.... like Ralliart UK don't have the faintest idea and they sent you the wrong part!! Now making you buy the real LSD because:
a) they don't have to admit that they made a mistake
b) they make more money!!
I think you've been had by them cause I've definetely read about that replacement diff and see pics. When they said that they've fitted them to GSRs did you ask them what the difference was?? To my knowledge there is no difference at all between the TME and GSR AYC.

Totally agree with you that AYC on the earlier cars is poor, but on the 7 it is greatly improved. I suspect that is because of the ACD. You will remember that SuperL posted that with the Sports ACD, he is thinking that he will now stay with the AYC rather than change to the Cusco LCD. I agree with this view but if I had a 6, the AYC would go!

I think you are missing the point. An E7 is great with or without AYC. In fact, a car without AYC is great fun to drive because it does not have as high level of roadholding as a car with AYC. You just get a slightly different driving experience.
So, not to get the car because it does or doesn't have AYC really misses the point. If they are building the car to a price, then something has to go and one thing they seem to be going to do right is increase the fuel tank size. A tank with only 200 mile range (max) is a real pain.

I personally hope tha the AYC doesn't come over to the US. Simply because of the fact that the PURISTS will turn to the STi when it comes over here instead of the VII. More hassle then we need over here in the US if you ask me
Simon,
to me it doesn't matter what car, stability control is out of the question in any of my future fun cars. Even if Albert Einstein himself calculated the algorithm, I'm not interested. Traction control I might be willing to negotiate about...

I can understand your viewpoint but I believe that a properly sorted system should not be intrusive and be able to give increased roadholding.
Look at it this way. If the car has increased roadholding and handles the way you want, do you really care whether it is done electronically or manually, such as with a cusco LSD?
All I am saying is that on the 7 it is possible to get the ACD and AYC to give really good handling. I have now experienced what the AYC is like on the 6 so know why you feel that way but as Claudius and SuperL have said, on the 7 it is much better.
BTW, is your car back on the road yet and what plans have you for it?

My car is aaalllmmoooosst on the road now. Only one piece of paper missing as of today, an insurance document called the "Doppelkarte." It's easy to get, but I'm trying to get the car insured for the same conditions as a very large international company that my father happens to work for
If that works out really well, my car could be the Evo with the lowest running costs on the planet
So far, it's got the Euro 2 norm (did it by itself, don't ask how...) which means 120 Euros tax (about 80 quid). Now I wait for a full comp. insurance in the region of 500-1000 Euros if I'm lucky, otherwise about 3000, which still isn't that bad.
What have I planned?
DS 2500 pads, AP organic clutch, Goodridge hoses and CTF front discs are on order. Want to get a set of Eibach springs with helpers front and back, new spark plugs and leads after that and Pirelli yellows. That's what within my budget right now, an ECU WILL follow at some day...

Motor Trend is still stating this......
2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII
After teasing appearances at auto shows and months of speculation, the Lancer Evolution VII has finally been confirmed for sale in the United States beginning spring 2003. This extreme, motorsports-tuned Lancer variant features a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, lightweight body pieces, and ferocious powerplant in pureblood Japanese form. The American market can expect the rally-bred sedan to make the trip almost entirely intact, with the exception of the 276-horsepower output: while that figure was originally thought to be reduced to 250 due to emissions and intercooler packaging issues, sources now say it will have at least 260 horses. Price is promised to be under $30, which puts this ultra-sports sedan in elite performance company. Expect Subaru is to counter with its potent WRX STi.
I see nothing about a HP # lower then 260+ and no AYC
