Why do our cars suck for comfort on longer drives?
Why are our cars so damn uncomfortable to drive for any distance? I mean short drives are fine, just long ones suck. My car is an 05 purchased in February, and I already have 11,000 miles on it. As you can see I do a ton of driving. My right foot and especially the heel hurt so much anymore driving it that it is painful. I believe that if this thing had telescoping pedals or telescoping steering wheel that it would be more comfortable to drive. I am 6ft tall and have long legs so this thing is uncomfortable on longer drives.
I also think if it had seats that adjust better it would also be nice, meaning not just up and down seat height, reclining back rest and foreward and back adjustments. If this thing had adjustable lumbar, and also seat tilt (the part your *** sits on) this thing would actually be nicer to drive.
Obvoiusly having cruise control would help, but what else can be done? Trust me when I say my foot and heel hurt, they hurt so much I have to see the Dr. and maybe get a cortizone shot, but that's only a temp fix.
I also know I can change my seats out for Ralliart/Evo seats, but I think that would only be slightly more comfy because they still do not have the additional seat adjustments of lumbar and seat bottom tilt.
I honestly think the seat would be comfy to sit in if the pedals were located differently so your feet could be stretched out farther.
Any ideas?

Well I got an '02 OZ and I'm just fine on long drives (6'2") and I used to make (too too) many trips from Grandville, MI to Duluth , MN and Grandville, MI to Asheville, NC and from there to Jacksonville, NC, up to Cleveland, OH, then to Mentor, OH. I've been all over everywhere, but I have had no problems. I guess it just depends on the person, I mean I don't think they changed the interior from the first gen to the 2nd, just cause y'all have a better engine and rear disc options!!!! Maybe you could try and get some different seats! I hope you can figure something out man!

i've driven cross country a few times and i've had no problems on long drives. i'm a touch shorter (5'10 i think), but i find it very comfortable actually (in stock oz seats)
i think if you are really uncomfortable, try getting some good seats first, some nice corbeau or sparco with alot of padding and lumbar support (i know you can get corbeau seats with the lumbar air bag as an option)
for the foot pedal thing, i'm not sure thats the pedal, but rather seating position, which a new seat should/could help you with

Idk if you seats are that bad, i'd definately get some different ones.
I myself, like many, haven't had any problem driving long distance. I drove from Wisconsin to Arizona and back, and i felt pretty comfy in my seats.

I'm with hobie on this one, it was great for driving long distance, I quite often will just drive for a day, for no real reason. I've made 2 cross-country trips with mine, and had no complaints whatsoever. If you're having to get a cortozone shot in your heel, I think there might be something more wrong than just discomfort of driving, ever get an x-ray of it? Could have a bone spur or somethin going on. oh yeah, I'm 6'4".

Thats what I am going to do, get an x-ray this coming Friday, could be a spur, but I am only affected while I drive, and never had this problem prior to owning a Lancer.
Actually I have to agree about the discomfort. I'm 6'6" and in order to get proper control of the clutch, I have to move my seat further forward than on an automatic. The Dash is so low that my knees rub against the dash pretty much all the time. My *** falls asleep over a few hours, and my heel gets very tired and also falls asleep. I never thought about *****ing about it until now. Of course I deal with it, I've driven from Wichita, KS to New York roundtrip twice now in a 99' miata and it was practically the same ride. (Other than lower stance, and stiffer suspension. I guess I've just learned to deal because I am so tall.
My recommendation would be to get one of those heel supports, it will at least take some of the stress off your ankle.

The only complaint I could think of would be swamp ***, and I don't even think that counts. And I'm about 6'1"-6'2".
