my tailight is out... and....

i cant get it to come back on. ok

so heres the facts.

1) my dirvers taillight is out... not the blinker and reverse ect. but just the light for braking and lights on.
2) my gauge cluster is out, just the red on the rpm and well everything but the blinkers high beam check engine ect.
3) the fuse for the gauges is good or else the rpms and such would not be working (they work they just dont light up...)
4) everytime i replace the fuse to the taillight it blows! wtf. so everytime i put it in and turn on the lights it goes out instantly.
5) its not the bulb, i tested it.
6) nor is the bulb on the gauges, i tryed my old es clsuter same problem ect.

7) when i blew my fuse for the passenger side one.... the hvac lights wnet out, and then my (automatic) lights around the shifter (d n 1 2 3 ect) are out.

so are they linked? im inclined they are? wtf do i do at this point!

thanks for the help.

Just a slightly educated guess here after a quick look at the service manual. Behind the dash, on the drivers side, is a junction block. This junction block is part of the Lancer's Simplified Wiring System and a number of the connectors work to control both dash and tail lights. Check this junction block for damaged wires and connectors.

yup... same thing happened to me. its the fuse under the hood and another fuse beside the steering column. i dunno about the blowing fuse everytime you change it part, but the same lights stopped working for me (actually the EXACT same ones) and yeah, found it was the fuse. What i also found was when i checked to see if the fuse was good or not, the reader (i used two different ones) kept telling me it was good but when i took the actual fuse out and checked the bottom part of the fuse, it was out (so basically the top isn't good enough to check). i believe it was both the 7 AMP fuses. hope that helps! if not what i did was downloaded an electrical schematic (i think i found it on here) and went through it wire by wire. good luck!

yea, same thing happened to me. there is one fuse under the hood, and if it blows all the interior lighting will go out, along with the tail light.

According to the service manual there is a junction box behind the gauge cluster. Several of the connections on there run to both the gauges and the tails.

You mentioned trying your stock ES cluster and still had the problem, so it's possible something is shorting a connection on that junction box.

hmm this is interesting, b/c I had my tail light and HVAC go out but not the gaugle cluster lights. I fixed that problem now probably 2 years later only the left half of my gauges light up, I still get lights that are not always on (if that makes sense) like the low gas light, and cruise, but the lights that just light up the background dont work.

Look for a 7.5 amp fuse in the box under the hood.

Hey... that's up to you to find out... at least I was right about the fuse j/k... I have no clue what the problem could be. Have you done any electronic work in the car in the past few days... Have you installed the piggyback from Rrm... the piggy wouldn't cause the issue but you have knocked a wire while installing or something...

I havent had this problem.. only similar.. my left side parking lights went out and every time iput fuse it in blew. turns out some water got into my license plate lighting connector and was shorting...
