Why mod the lancer?
How is audio a better investment? How many people can honestly tell the difference between the stock system with maybe a deck and 1000$ worth of amps and subs? My buddy has a system in his protege, and I actually cannot tell the difference apart from when I'm in the back and the combination of a crappy exhaust and a large sub make my ears physically hurt. The only sound upgrade I have is a deck, and I'm happy with that. I'm not enough of a music guy to want to do the whole amps, subs, speakers, etc. thing. I do however love the sound of my engine when the intake really gets roaring, or when the header starts to woosh. The best is on cold days when everything gets into sync and the engine actually sounds mean.
Personally, i mod my lancer b/c how else would i spend my money (i have a habit of spending more money than i have)
before i got started (Cold Air Intake) i rarely drove my car, then i got the intake, exaust and other things and i drive more and more because its fun to see people with the same model car i have and it is completely stock i like to see how far my car has came since i got it over 2 years ago

there are alot of mods that the 4g94 will respond very nicely to. And the most expensive part on my car were the headers and downpipe at ~$250..
And anyone who dosent believe me can drive a stock lancer and then come drive my car.. huge difference. But it is still not a high performance car and i dont think anyone really expected it to be. Frankly, I really like how easy the engine is to work on, except for the damn crank pulley bolt.

^^ haha, hope you never "skip a beat"! i think some portions of the lancer doesnt need to be modded. my audio in my ls sounds fine to me. i work in the ghetto, if i put money into a sound system, it would get stolen shortly after. i dont need loud music, id rather listen to my car, my old car especially, i like to know if it starts making bad noises and such. and yeah, i agree that a turbo can be a hassle for the 4g94, not a huge one, but it runs into problems, but a turbo is a turbo. it makes people feel good to say "my car has a turbo." or "my car is supercharged." and the lancer does adapt to handeling and suspension mods very easily. just listen to the people who autoX their lancers. they put in a reasonable amount of money into their cars, and i think, i dont rember, they rank high in their class. i am personally not worring about my motor, other than a lightened pulley, because i dont have the money, or another vehichle to drive, to modify my engine that much. so im doing suspension mods. it gives me a feeling of safety knowing the limits of my lancer when it comes to handeling. and you cant say that audio is more important that handeling mods, have you ever been in a wreck, and your sub hit so hard, it makes you go right and avoid a life threatening situation? no, but a nice suspension, and a focused reactive driver can avoid these situations. is ear pleasure worth he price of your life, or anothers? and dont say it cost less for sound. i will replace my speakers and deck when they break. but for now, their hanging tight. so theirs my 2¢

Current mods: AEM CAI, RMR front strut bar, RDD rear strut bar, RDD rear lower tie bar, Ground Fusion grounding kit, Buschur catback w/magnaflow, Kartboy short shifter/knob, Kartboy shifter bushings, Sway bar w/Deyeme bushings, Viper car alarm, Alpine CDA-9830
If memory serves, he got 90% of that used (most of which came from my Lancer). The car alarm and stereo he can use in any car.
Secondly, just because you have a modified car, doesn't mean you think it's worthwhile. Hindsight is 20-20. That's why I parted out and bought a Subaru.

The bright side of things is it's your money and you can spend it any way you want. The smart upgrades are things like audio goodies because you can actually benefit from their use every day and even take it with you if you ever buy a real sports car.
Turbo or sc is totally up to you, huge *** waste of money to shorten the life of your engine, only have two wheels to try to keep the power planted on the ground properly, and still get your *** handed to you by someone with a sports car that goes that fast from the factory. I won't mention any other car names that can do this easily.

The problem with modifying the lancer at this time is weight. There's a reason you hardly see any NA 4 door cars at the race track. They're plain heavy.
It's all I can afford, it gets good gas mileage and I enjoy making it different.
If I could ever get someone to tune it properly things would be different. I don't think there is one professionally tuned NA lancer on this board (alchemist not withstanding) that races.
Time will tell though. The cars are still only a few years old.

but so far i love my car! so much time spent yet so lil money~ DIY-ing is the way to go!

Mod because you want to make a real improvement in the area(s) you think your car could use improvement. If this means adding some intake and exhaust parts to give you a bit better passing power or upgrading the tires and anti-roll bar for better handling then by all means do so no matter WHAT vehicle you have. For the most part many performance parts are the way things should have been designed ideally but since the world is full of sissys the company has changed them to suit the pantywaists. Happy modding, just stay classy.

These cars do not hold their value any better than a Kia and just plain and simple are not worth the money or spending money on. If I would have known this when I purchased the car, or spent the $300 in mods I would not have even spent or purchased it, believe me.
